Homestead check up!

With temperatures above freezing today and clear roads, we decided to drive up to our future homestead! We didn’t get our bunkie insulated before winter or a wood stove installed yet, sadly, so we haven’t been up much. It’s a 2 hour drive from our current home so we are limited to weekends and holidays to work on it.

It may not be big and it may not be fancy but it’s SO cozy!

We were pleasantly surprised that there was much less snow than normal, which meant no need to dig out the drive or walkways. WIN! The bunkie is standing strong with no leaks or damages and nothing has been stolen. Always a fear when we’ve been away this long.

We may even be able to come up and do some work over the next few weeks if the weather stays on our side. Next step is to find a small window to replace the one that we broke while installing it (don’t ask!) So we have two more windows to install and then the siding, finish up along the roof line, insulate the interior, add the small top loft area and install a “Tiny” wood stove. So excited just thinking about it! Once that is done we can move on to demolition of the big old eye sore of a house that is patiently waiting for removal.

I can’t explain the feeling I get when I think of the future of our little homestead. Privacy, freedom and peace is what comes to mind.

It might not be the life for everyone but for me, it is exactly what I want and what I need! Spring can’t come soon enough!
