Long keeper tomatoes are truly amazing!
Burpee's Long-Keeper Tomatoes are amazing and I am so glad to have been growing them as no matter how the growing season goes these plants seem to pull through. In fact, the only tomatoe success I had this year are from my long keepers. This was the worst growing season I've gone through since growing in the pacnwst -- the year was abnormally cool with a short and hot summer. I usually have a bumper crop of tomatoes and a lovely assortment too but not this year, sadly. This is why it is important to plant a diverse variety of veg and to have put back (be it canned, pickled, fermented, frozen) as much as possible when you do get bumper crops as nothing is guaranteed when it comes to nature.
These long keeper tomatoes (above) have been on this shelf for over two months and I have been slowly using them as my fall crop, sad as it is, is starting to come in to replace these. They may look a little wrinkly but let me tell you, they are delicious and truly lovely to serve room temperature as they are sweet and meaty. I love these small tomatoes for the taste alone, the long shelf life is a bonus.
*As an aside, these looked terrible on the plant because of the erratic weather yet they taste fine and as any farm person will tell you, you just cut out the icky bits and use the rest. Don't let looks deceive you.
I always fill a shelf for immediate use over a few weeks in the kitchen and then wrap the rest in tissue and put them in the root cellar for longer storage, do not let them touch and you will have delicious fresh tomatoes for up to three months (I have heard of longer shelf life but mine never make it past three because I use them) and that is a wonderful thing in the cold of winter (especially those of us that try and live off our own produce). As with all tomatoes, use the "damaged" ones first as they will rot fast and only store those that have unbroken skins.
Above is a shot of one of two LKT plants on a hugel mound taken this morning (as all the photos were) it's getting to the point where I am going to pull all of them as the weather is dipping close to thirty degrees at night now. I really should do a post and show you how terrible all my other tomatoes look, and peppers, and corn, and cucumbers... ugh, I could go on. I am thankful for the stuff that did produce though and this is why I have a lot of stuff growing and never count on one variety of anything if possible -- redundancy in homesteading is a way of life for me.
If you enjoy tomatoes fresh and have space to grow I highly recommend these Burpee long keeper tomatoes. I am a seed to seed person so I make sure to let a few rot so that I may have seeds for next spring.
May the day find you well. <3
Addendum: You may find the seeds here (link below). I'm putting this link here as some people have jokes, so here is the info from the source, don't just take my word for it!

Thank you kindly. :)
I followed you back.
Thank you
Tomatoes are my absolute favorite crop. I've never grown these long keeper variety, but you can bet I will! Fantastic post. Now I'm going to go eat a tomato sandwich :D <3
You will love these! <3
I never knew there were tomatoes that keep that long! I know what I’m planting next season.
You will LOVE them. They grow easily in containers too. <3
They look a bit bit tough to eat. You must have pretty dry and cool storage room to keep them for so long!
They are not tough at all, in fact they are tender and juicy with a meaty consistency much like roma tomatoes.
I live in a rain forest type area of the pacific northwest (usa) and they preform as Burpee says they should. I did grow them when I lived in the desert of NM also with the same results.
Here is some info from Burpee about them:
