Blooming large leaf camellia sinensis (tea)

What a treat to look out my window and see this camellia blooming today. I planted this and a small leaf variety three years ago and have just been in waiting for the time when I can start to harvest (each plant has it's own flavor I find) the leaves to make green and black tea in-house, it's going to be another couple years but it makes me feel a bit on the warm-fuzzy side to see how well they are doing.

I have other more mature tea plants (caffein producing) that I harvest from, including the Yupon of which I've talked about in another post, yet, every green friend in the garden contributes to the whole -- when they do well, I do well.

I have not been a coffee person for some time, so the teas are my jam, both herbal and caffeinated (leaded..lol), being able to supply my needs without having to import them from outside the property is such a powerful, radical thing that makes me smile and feel proud as this is a relationship with the earth that deepens my experience in life.

If you love green and black tea and can grow camellia sinensis, I highly suggest giving it a go.

Beautiful pictures and story.

Thank you, Dear Radagast. <3

For my 30th bday I made a tiered cake decorated w camellia leaves and blooms, how I miss these plants 🌿 hugs to you my fairy friend!🧚🏻‍♀️

OMS! GURLLLLL, I have missed you so much. Glad to see your beautiful presence here again. <3

I want to have a go at growing my own tea, so I read this with great interest. I'd love to know what gardening zone you are in, as a comparison.

Is the fermentation process (to make the black tea) easy?

What do you think might be a good minimum number of bushes to grow?

Can you tell I'm keen? lol :)

Hello @ravenruis, I am in zone 8b and I purchased all my Tea Camilla from a Carolina nursery (it gets pretty cold there). If you have lots of space I would suggest as many as you can, but I drink a lot of tea and would love to sell at the farmers market (selling locally is always great).

Making the green tea is so easy, as I suspect you already know. I am a fermenting gal so the process is no more difficult if you are in the flow with all that.... *I should make a post on the process (there are lots of vids on yt, which is how I actually learned). I sun wither my leaves as I think it tastes so good.

Your zone is a lot warmer than mine, but if the tea bushes still perform well where they came from, in rather colder temperatures, then there may be hope for my success. I do envision a hedge of them, so even as a windbreak they'd be useful.

I haven't done any fermenting - but for tea, I'd learn! :D

Actually, the body is very good at tea, the body is hot and the health is very good. There are many tea in our country, but the color of your leaves is beautiful

This post deserves a thumbs up!
I absolutely think organic is always and way better than processed/ powdered teas in the market.

Thank you kindly... I love this graphic. <3

Thank you @mamadini, Upvoted and followed you to read more of your future posts!

You are sweet -- I also followed you. :)

Bangladesh is famous for tea, planting saplings in your own hands, and eating tea from that tree, it is a matter of happiness.

It is truly a matter of happiness. :)

Bangladesh is wonderous.

tnxcx a lot.....
