Here I am just about to go outside and gather eggs for my first time with my new apron. My friend Carol crocheted it for me after seeing a photo of one on the internet! What a talented woman eh?
The girls laid 7 eggs today. Look inside!
Soooooo badass hey? All she would accept for it was eggs, one hell of a trade if you ask me! She wanted me to put some of the baby chicks in the pockets, and I admit that would be the cutest photo in the world, but the last time I tried to pick up a chick, the Mother Hen, Grace, attacked the shit out of me. AHHAHAAAA...I'm scarred for life! I am not going near those chicks again I tell ya...
Canning Tomato Sauce
After freezing a bunch of it, I ran out of room in my freezer...man we gotta get a big deep freeze soon, this is ridiculous... Our freezer is packed with chickens and we haven't even butchered them all yet. Okay...first world problems I will shut up now! And just be totally grateful for all of this food. So, I digress, horribly...I ran out of room and started canning the tomato sauce instead.
First, sterilize everything in boiling water.
I keep a cloth at the bottom of the pot, it prevents breakage. If you're an experienced canner, you can see that I'm working with a pretty small pot, it's the best I got though! More time consuming, however, at this point a bigger pot is a want and not a need, so I go without for now.
Filling the sterilized jars.
And back into the boiling water again for what is called a water bath.
6 litres plus 4 more in the freezer, not bad, not bad...
And then outside to do some more happy harvesting...
Banana peppers, jalapenos, cayenne, eggplant, tomatoes of many many different varieties, most of the tomato seeds given to me by the wonderful Steemian @karenfoster AKA DA FOS!! Love the egg apron! Oh what I would have done to have had one about 10 years ago when we had over 100 hens!
Instead I used a huge tupperware bowl, which ended up breaking some eggs.

You have been really busy lately with your canning and freezing. That sauce looks amazing! Call me jealous. How nice of your friend to make your egg apron for you. Some days the balancing act doesn't go so well and I manage to drop one on the ground. Boxer dog is happy to take care of that problem. Have another great day! 🐓🐓

The egg apron is egg-straordinary. Sorry, I couldn't help myself... Your friend did an amazing job and she's right. Chicks in the pocket would be so cute. Good haul considering the time of year. Tomato sauce looks great. A large chest sized deep freezer was a purchase I made last year. Haven't regretted it.

Oh my gosh that apron is so dope! I've never heard of an egg holding apron. And your bounty is oh so beautiful. Next season I'll have a garden again, this makes me swoon!
