RE: Building Your Homestead Paradise, What Would it Look Like??? #homesteading #ifyoucandreamityoucandoit

Your favorite chicken? Did you grow up on a farm?
Your want list looks pretty typical from what I can tell. I don’t have a whole lot of knowledge when it comes to the animal side of things but I would say there is such thing as too much land. I would only get as much as you have enough time to take care of.
I went to the nursery near me earlier this summer, and found out that we can grow grapes here?! And pears too! I had no idea. The owner told me they are small pears but hey, fruit is fruit!

Staying 30min-2hrs outside the city. I can understand why you’d want to do this. But let’s look at things at this way. Ok first, I’m not sure what you do for a living, so I don’t know what kind of hours you work. But if you want to homestead, that is going to take a lot of your time. Now sure if you live 30min away, that may not be too bad. But then, how much more tempting will it be to visit the city? If you’re 2 hours away, hmm idk about that. Will that leave you much time to tend to things at home. Speaking as a wife(with 3 kids) whose husband is always busy during the summer, it’s hard to be the one to do most of the work that needs to be done at home. I know you’d probably like to have best of both worlds, but unfortunately, most people have to pick one or the other (depending on how deep into homesteading you want to go of course.)

Well those are just some of my thoughts anyways!

Sort:

I did not grow up on a farm, even though we had 7 acres. Our neighbors had horses who I would tend to, and another neighbor had chickens. But that chicken (Sol), and a few others, I had at my current home here in Robbinsdale. Urban chickens for the win!

My neighbor here says he has grown peach trees here! I've seen a few wineries popping up too, so grapes are doable as you say. But I hadn't heard of pears. Nice, good to know!

As for travel time to work, I could have been more specific. Regardless where we end up, 30 mins max to my job is about what we want. So even if we are 2 hours north of the cities, my job would still be 30 mins from the homestead :)

As always, I appreciate your thoughts greatly!

Ohhh, I gotcha now! Well half an hour from your job isn’t too bad then! You sure you wouldn’t rather move way up here in the boonies?!

Ahhhhh, I got a buddy up in the Virginia/Eveleth area that I could see hanging out with a bunch if we went that far. But I think you're even farther than that! No?

That's also a good sized trip (travel wise) if we wanted to do make it consistently.

Yup, further north and on the other side of the state.
