A simple door for the hen house
This is a simple door that can be made in just a few hours. I am just finishing an extension to the chicken run and needed a door.
The opening is 26 x 60 (it is short because there is a high threshold to step over). First I cut the top and bottom of the door at 25 inches. This will allow a ½ inch on either side of the door when setting the door in the opening. This will also be true on the height. Next I marked and cut a 2” x 3½” cutout for the sides of the door.
I cut the two door sides at 57 inches. This will give me allowance for the door height of 60 inches. I put the side pieces into the cutouts and screwed them together. This gives me a good strong joint.
Next I laid the door on top of a 2 x 4, adjusted where I wanted it, marked it, and cut it. I set it in place and screwed it down.
All that is left is to staple the hardware cloth down and add hinges. I used ¼” hardware cloth rather than chicken wire because hardware cloth is much stronger and a big raccoon can tear a hole in chicken wire without too much difficulty.

You made a nice simple door. However, with the front door for the house, such a trick will not work. I thought for a long time and bought fiberglass doors https://www.elegantentrydoors.ca/entry-fiberglass-doors/ because I liked the design, reliability and low price. My choice fell on a double-leaf front door and now the facade of my house has become beautiful and modern. I recommend to everyone!
