A very cold Thursday Green

in #homesteading5 years ago

I took these pictures a couple of weeks ago, when we were in the middle of an unseasonable cold snap. Our average first frost is in mid-November. It hit a little early this year, and I can't say I enjoyed it. It was picturesque, though.

The morning I went out to take these, it was 25 degrees and the sun had just come up. I was distracted by the light shining on the ice crystals, so I bundled up and ventured out. I didn't last very long, though, because I couldn't feel my hands after a few minutes and I had to give up.

A lot of the pictures looked like my regular water drop pictures, but the drops were all frozen. I noticed when I was looking at them afterward that the big drops don't reflect the scenery when they're ice. I guess they're busy doing other things.

It took me a while to post these, or anything really, because when the weather went bad I was thrown into a deep funk and couldn't see the point of anything for a while. I do this every year, but not usually this early. Eventually I will pull my head out from under the rock where I've been hiding and just get on with it, but this transition is difficult every time, even when it's not so much earlier than usual.

This next one is not so much with the green, but I thought it was cool. One of the chickens lost a feather in the grass, and it caught some dew drops.

It has since warmed up a bit, which is a relief. We could still use some more rain, and although the forecast keeps promising it, the days are dawning either foggy and bleak or clear and cold. The foggy mornings make for warmer days, so I'm hoping for that until the real clouds move in.

That's my cold story for today. I'm going to go make a fire now.

Beautiful frosty pictures! Each one is quite gorgeous! @tipu curate

Verry good the beautiful photography

Awesome pictures. I particularly like the first one. It looks like icing on the leaves.
You still have to feed the goats though, don't you?

Beautiful pictures as always!
I do love how frost covers things this way - and you've captured them perfectly.

BTW, you'd love the alarm my hubby is using from my phone right now! It's a rooster... except this poor thing doesn't even take a breath between crows! It sounds like it's about to die, and not because we're about to shoot it!

Hahahaha! I would download that alarm but I have it live and in color! That's so funny!

I'm still a little cranky about the early cold weather. I'm sitting on the wood stove right now trying to thaw my toes. The frost makes for some great photo ops but sheesh!

Your version is much better! I just want to 1) strangle 2) mercy-kill that thing!

Your moisture makes it feel so much colder than it feels here! I'll take dry cold over wet any day!

These are so beautiful :)

That feather picture looks like something other-worldly. A fallen creature of unknown origin, dead. Or, is the feathered creature just sleeping? What will it do when it awakes? Is a sign that more are coming? Well, maybe not more creatures, but certainly more freezes are coming.

We are supposed to get a bit of a taste of cold this week, and I'm quite excited about it. I say that, because I don't remember. When I remember I will eat my words with a side of hot chocolate from within a fuzzy robe draped from head to foot.
