Planting Cuttings & Seedlings
Hello everyone,
Today I decided to take some cuttings from my ornamentals to further expand the plant life around the homestead. There can never be too many plants and taking cuttings is the most economical way to extend my plant count!
I started with some spider plant cuttings and small seedlings that had grown around the main plant. The seedlings came out relatively easy and they had really good root systems already.
The aloe vera patch in the garden is ever-growing, they are so hardy. I had plenty of small aloes to choose from so I decided to fill two pots with the best ones. Their roots are massive but they are very forgiving so I was able to cut them down a bit to fit happily in the soil. As we all know aloe vera is such a healing plant, I use it regularly to soothe my eczema prone skin. The more aloe plants I have the better.
I have loads of nasturtium popping up so I decided to unearth a few seedlings to fill my pretty clay pot. I also took cuttings from the Kalanchoe, Aeonio and Foxtail Agave. I finished off by repotting some Twilight chili seedlings.
There you have it: a simple and free method of expanding ones garden. I'm really happy with the result, they are brightening up walkways and corners that were otherwise bare!

It’s awesome how some of the seedlings that you pulled have such good roots already.
Your garden must look amazing with all of those varieties of ornamentals. The pictures of them look very healthy and vibrant green.
I love the photos of the aloe and the three pots you filled. The picture of the aloe is especially great, the detail on its leaves and the focal point really highlight it’s attributes!
It has been a busy afternoon indeed! The whole garden has gotten much greener with the rainfall we've had the last few weeks, providing perfect conditions for cutting and replanting.

Nice work on the cuttings, ive got a load of strawberry runners to pot up when i get round to it 🙂 if only the garden would grow in size like the plants haha

Thanks @digitaldan! Sometimes things take a while to grow but if we do the right things we will have a healthy garden that will end up thriving :)
I look forward to seeing your strawberry runner pots - I had some strawberry plants but they all died off at the beginning of the year! I am going to have to plant more soon, thanks for reminding me :)
Thats true @gardenchef i tought id killed ours too this year cut then right back before winter but they came back strong. Im after trying some of the everbearing varietys that fruit all year. Need to make more space first for another bed 🙂

It's always a good day in the garden
I plan on doing some cuttings ans planting tomorrow too. I've just planted some carnation seeds for a bit more colour kangaroos ate most of my sunflowers haha I'll be planting more and putting a bit of a barrier around them this time

Wow, you certainly remind me of me, you always have something going on in the garden. I used to divide all my plants every year as I had hundreds of perennials in pots that needed up potting to go to the public market every spring. That kept me very busy.
Wow so you used to create new plants to sell at the market? How cool. I bet people loved them! What sort of potted perennials did you have?
I had over 100 or so variety of perennials and grasses plus I grew vines, annuals and veggies for sale. It was a lot of work. I did that for about 14 years, until my husband hurt is back and had to have a few operations. I did it one whole season by myself and it was way to much for me. Now, I make soaps and sell crystals online and stick to caring for my own gardens. It was hard to let the nursery go but, I so don't miss the constant hard work. lol Soapmaking is so much easier on my body and I am just starting to get a following online. Now, that is fun!
Wow that is an extremely impressive resume! I can only imagine how much hard work that must have been. But when you love what you do you just keep going until you can’t! I sure hope your husband has recovered from those operations.

I focus on all natural, vegan friendly. But many customers like goats milk too so I just started a few of those. I use a lot of my organic herbs and flowers in my soaps. It is always fun to come up with something new. I have to get busy doing shower melts and body butters as it is safe to ship them now. Never a dull moment in my home.
