Now is the Time to prepare Christmas gifts
Black Friday and sales aside, now is the time to prepare your Christmas gifts if you haven't already.
Gift giving the homesteading way
When I think of gift giving I think of homemade gifts, books, tools or experiences. My extended family doesn't quite agree, but if you have the chance then buy 'useful' gifts for people, not just another nick nack that will collect dust for years to come.
You can, of course, opt out entirely from the gift giving race, but I have to admit I like giving AND receiving gifts.
Homemade gifts can be wonderful, but if they aren't appreciated, then I would rather give people something they will enjoy.
What's on your list?
This year, I'm asking for a few clothing items that my closet is lacking. I'm asking for some kitchen tools, mostly canning jars and a ton of books. That's actually what my list looks like most years. We also have fixed gift giving traditions. We always receive all-year passes to one of our favourite parks from my parents. This year, we've chosen to add an all-year pass to the Zoo as our son is getting older and we would love to spend time there with him regularly. That's the gift we're giving each other this year. Something we would have gotten anyway probably.
Get the shopping done
You might enjoy gift shopping with everyone else a couple of days before Christmas or you may do all your shopping online, but if you don't, now is the time to get all your gifts bought. I will try to have all my gifts bought by December 1st. It's something my mum always used to do. It would get her into a Christmas spirit and it would make the actual month of Christmas a lot less stressful. She would also buy all the dry goods she would need for Christmas, but that's a different story.
Hi i love your ideas of christmas. i would love to read future blogs of yours if u have ways to save at christmas or of course other times too.
I do have ways of saving and will be sharing those in future posts. I think I forgot to comment, but I enjoyed reading about your Christmas crafting.
Impressed by your organisation. I'm usually a dashing around the week before Christmas to get the presents sort of person 😊
My mum taught me well, and years and years of exams in early January has helped too. If you don't mind it then there is nothing wrong with your approach, but it certainly isn't for me :)
I always have the intention of starting earlier, but never quite make it.
You are not alone, I think that's how much people do it.
