'N Vang Kassie??

Hey everyone, but Craig what on Earth is this heading, my friends from abroad may be asking? Most South African English speaking folks can speak Afrikaans, one of our colourful national languages, that been said most Afrikaans folks in South Africa can speak English....

As per the title what does this mean? I am quiet bi-lingual have been for many years, I speak decent enough Afrikaans with good enough dialect to get by as an Afrikaans person, some would argue not though, @buckaroo and @quailbreeder (Dad and Sister)!

Enough Waffling what does the title mean? It Simple means A Catcher Box. This we use in the height of the honey flow to capture feral bees on the move! We got so lucky a few weeks ago when we inspected this box which previously was empty, so elated to find a huge swarm had moved in!

In the below pic, said swarm we had just removed from the tree above and relocated to a larger hive (ten frame) and put on a drum on a temporary basis while they acclimatized to their new home!

Bees have a 3 foot and 3 mile rule, you CANNOT move them more than 3 foot a day and if you want to, it has to be more than 3 miles, if not they will simply return to the exact spot of their previous 'residence' amazing right? They truly have the best GPS know to nature, hell they even embarrass man, with their incredibly accurate 'navigation system'

That bird feeder is not a bird feeder, every now and then we put honey and wax in this to feed the bees, we captured the feral swarm right next to this bird feeder where it was hanging before we removed and reinstalled them into their new home!

Below the remainder of the honey left on the lid from the vang kassie (catcher box) we leave these in the area for a day or two for two reasons, 1 so that they can forage all remaining honey and 2 left over bees can move back to their hive after extraction!

This hive will remain on the drum for a few days whever after we will relocate to a nice nectar rich area over 3 miles away, the size of this swarm was huge and they promise to be very productive come August/September this year!

Can you spot that incredible honey on the lid, light, viscous and as tasty as it gets, this area is Bluegum rich, among the best honey on Earth comes from Bluegum Tree plantations!
