Disease is something that must be well managed by a good farm manager and necessary preventive measures and steps are to be taken to ensure bacterial infections and viral diseases does not strike a farm.

prevention is better than cure.

Unknown to most people, through our foot wears, we can easily transfer a deadly virus or bacteria to our farm from anywhere. We all know that this micro organisms are abundant and they can harbor anywhere provided the place is conducive for them to live.

While moving from one place to another, we also transfer this organisms along with us, depositing them around. In a case where we have different farms around, it is advisable thy whatever gadget or tool or instrument that has been used on farm A should not be used in farm B without disinfecting it.

Animal scientists have been able to device a means to reduce or stop totally the transfer of disease causing organisms from one farm to another or from anywhere to a farm; it is called the DIP BATH.

What is a dip bath

A dip bath is an external quarantine used for preventing the introduction of harmful organisms to a farm. Dip baths are usually placed at the entrance to a farm and legs are to be dipped into it before entering the farm.

Above is the picture of a dip bath for cars. Taking a closer look at it, check the picture below.

The dip bath is not just for legs alone, there is a other dip bath that is meant for cars, it is believed that car tyres can also carry harmful organisms and deposit them on one's farm, so a dip bath can be made using concreted floor ensuring that there is space for water and it has water holding capacity. For the sake of this article, I will like to explain how to make the "leg dip bath"

The dip bath is something that can be done easily by anyone, it does not require any technical support, all you have to do is to follow the steps below.

1)Get any germicide and mix with water.
Indications for use will be written on the germicide depending on what you want to achieve.

2)Get a 25 litres keg or any other plastic that can hold water.
If it is a keg, you will have to divide it into two just to ensure there is an opening large enough to contain ones legs.

3)Pour the mixture into the container and you are good to go.

Each time anyone wants to enter the farm to do anything, it is advisable that he or she dips his or her leg in the dip bath so that the deadly microorganisms would be killed and there wont be any transfer of such a deadly organism into the farm.

It is also advisable that a farmer gets new pair of foot wears that will be solely for farming activities and such foot wears will never for any reason leave the farm. So when the farmer comes around to carry out any activity on the farm, he will change the foot wear he brought to the farm to the one he has gotten for farming operations
