Homestead update - Autumn Rayne Acres
Greetings Steemit!
As promised - here is a quick update on what has happened over here at Autumn Rayne Acres.
We have added Sheep!
I now have a breeding pair of Boarder Leicester Sheep. The Boarder Leicester sheep are a European breed of long-wool sheep and are considered a dual-purpose breed. This breed of sheep is a polled breed (meaning they naturally don't grow horns) and are typically a docile breed. Lets just say I am in love with Sir Henry and Lady Clara. Both are incredibly affectionate animals and have completely stolen my heart. Right now they are just overgrown pets. However, we do plan to breed them in the fall and will hopefully have little baby lambs next spring.
We have also expanded our farm and acquired some ducks. Below are a few of the Khaki Campbell ducklings we have. the only thing I can say about the little quackers is they are incredibly dirty little animals and require an immense amount of maintenance to keep them clean. Hence the reason they are now out in general population with the rest of the flock. We also have a Peking Drake and 2 adult female ducks (1 pure Khaki Campbell and 1 Roen Campbell cross).
We have also expanded our chicken flock from the original sex links and Mottled English Orrington's too. We know have roughly 45 chickens including 4 Roosters. The new girls have not started laying. we expect them to hopefully start clucking out the butt nuggets the middle of this month. It has been so much fun to watch them grow from fluffy little baby chicks to full grown adult birds. In the mix we have added speckled Sussex, Black Astralopes, Cuckoo Marans, Easter Eggers and Road Island Reds.
Well those are the major updates for us here. Otherwise we are just trying to keep ourselves and the animals cool in this heat wave! How are y'all staying cool?
Happy Homesteading from all of us at Autumn Rayne Acres.
