RE: Our family is growing! Homesteading

SWEET! I'm going to raise chickens in a couple months!

What do you feed your chickens?

I want to get as close as possible to a natural diet and was thinking about raising mealworms and then supplementing their foraging with lots of vegetables, seeds and grains.

Sort:

After eating eggs from free ranging chickens, it is difficult to go back. The color and the taste is hugely different. They are chasing bugs stuff all day long. We actually feed them coconut ground up fine. Some papaya and other veggies and cracked corn. There is no shortage of ants here.
The worms, veggies, seeds and grains should be great!
Thanks for dropping by!
God bless brother!

Yes! Once you go pasture raised/backyard chickens you can't go back! :D LOL!
Wow! Ground up coconut! Wonderful idea! I will try that! Thank you for sharing that! :) Is it the dried, shredded coconut or fresh coconut that has been ground up?

We have 43 coconut trees. We also have many papaya trees. This is mainly why we feed the chickens this. This is what we have readily available. The hard and dried, mature coconut is ground to grain like size and fed to the chickens. Many times the feeder is the shell of the coconut.

Wow! Sweet! Thanks so much for your feedback!

I'm looking forward to raising backyard chickens! :D :D

And eating those tasty eggs! God bless my brother!

Yes indeed! 😃 blessings on you too brother! :-)
