As my son approaches his time to arrive Earthside, my need to live as low impact as possible is becoming more and more important to me. I live within city limits but I have a nice sizable piece of property that belongs to me. I'm not sure how great the soil is, I did throw in a couple tomato plants this summer just to see what would happen and they flourished.
I have a book written by Dick and James Strawbridge called Self Sufficiency for the 21st Century, and this is one of my favorite reads, but everything in there is a little daunting and nothing like I have ever learned or done before. I want to make it a priority for me to become and move more towards Self Sufficiency I'm just not certain where to begin, and I would really like to find like minded people who I could form relationships with and learn, grow, evolve, and create together.
I've never made my own garden before, raised livestock, collected rainwater, had earth ovens, or dyed my own clothes. I lived a much different life growing up as a child, but now as I am blossoming and coming into motherhood, I want to make sure I am instilling the right values and life lessons and importances into my son's life. I'm ready to shift to a more relaxed more minimalistic slow paced lifestyle where I really get to enjoy the things that are important to me. Any advice or conversations I can get to have on the subject would mean the world to me.
