Is homesteading offgrid for you

Is offgrid homesteading really for you? Well i moved from Washington state to Missouri to live offgrid and homestead. Ive always wanted to grow my food and raise animals.

I have 200 watts of solar power. I can charge phone, watch tv and run a few lights. I only have two batteries for now but will be getting more. Anyways this is probably the hardest thing for us homesteading. And yes you can homestead with electric but for me i want to have less bills.

Now we choose to haul water. Wells are expensive and would take more electric then i have. And again you dont have to haul water to be a homsteader. It is cheap for us. It costs us $30 for 300 gallons (yes i know not that cheap) but that also supports another homesteader to support himself.


Now you might want to get animals and for us it take a little more time to care for our goats because in winter we break ice a couple times a day. Also more hay for insulation. We cant use bucket heaters or heat lamps. But thats just part of being offgrid.


Part of being a offgrid homesteader iam sure you want to grow your own food but doing it in ways you conserve water can be tough but theres alot of ways of doing that. Also growing food that takes less water helps as well.
One of the biggest things i found that will help the most is building a community of like minded people that can help get other out.
So i say if this is something you would like to do then maybe try turning your power off for a little while first to see if this is something you can do. Now you dont have to be offgrid to homestead but if your wanted to be more self sufficient its a great feeling to make your own power. So i say you can do it it just takes getting use to.
