Raising My own Chicken Meat

One of our goals on the homestead is to raise our own chickens for meat and for eggs. So far it is working out quite well. This is our second batch of Cornish Cross meat birds and they turned out great!

The Cornish Cross meat chickens grow very fast! These birds were ready to be processed in about 8 weeks. The largest bird was almost 8 pounds and the smallest one was in the 4 pound range. It amazes how fast these birds grow.

We love knowing what conditions our food was raised and what they were fed. Processing something you raised for months is not the easiest but we belive it is better than the alternative meat markett.
