RE: Should Social Studies Focus on Racism and Prejudice?

in #homeschool9 years ago

You can't ignore our country's history and how far we've matured on this planet.. yet, around 70 years ago... there was a huge World War and a crazy old fart with "little man syndrome" trying to push for a Mass Extinction..

70 years

I can understand your opinion of not wanting to address these embarrassing moments but they are mistakes none the less.. mistakes that we have learned from

Mistakes are lessons in history we learn to avoid those as we continue our existence on this planet

I personally think that is a topic that should be addressed but in a completely different way.

I edited the post to reflect it's for a 1st grader.
The material itself does not cover 'racism,' it is using racist examples for situations where people did not cooperate. I'm saying there are PLENTY of other examples which could be used in the place of racist ones.

Yes, history should be studied. I don't believe it should be thrown in children's faces though. It's a tragedy most children are exposed to racism daily, mine has not, and is not.

I kinda get what your saying now.. yea, if it's offensive examples they are giving.. that needs to go

Appreciate the feedback, helped me clarify it. :)
