Experience With Sia Part 2
Currently I am living with my parents, along with two other siblings. Each of us have our own devices which take up bandwidth, and that combined with the fact that we are in Idaho doesn't give us very great Internet speeds. This article will talk about my experience with Sia, and why cloud backups aren't the best solution for me. If you haven't read part 1, it is linked below.

I move a lot of data. Some would call me a digital packrat. Basically, if I am incorporating a new backup system (or methodology in general) it needs to facilitate large amounts of bandwidth and storage. Don't be mistaken, Sia would be able to handle it. Sia allows for very cheap bandwidth and storage, money isn't the problem. The problem is my Internet connection, which sadly means I won't be able to keep Sia as a longterm thing.
Our peak download speeds are somewhere around 20 megabits/second. This would be adequate, but reality kicks in when everyone else gets on the network. After all that family traffic, it's near impossible for me to utilize Sia (or any cloud service) as something that I can default to. For now my backups will be confined to my NAS and offline storage.
This concludes my short recap on my experience with Sia. Be sure to check out my previous homelab posts, and if you would like to support my homelab (and therefore education) leave an upvote.
