Holybread - Two week review
About two weeks ago I started playing the - as far as I know - most recent game on the Steem blockchain: @holybread. Time to give my first impressions.
Gameplay
The game is quite easy to understand and play. You have to grow heroes/fighters and can use them to get higher in the ranking and earn more rewards. Heroes become more experienced by doing quests. Quests also reward you with some (in-game) money that can be used to buy items that improves your heroes damage, HP and luck. Below you can see my strongest (and first) hero Quinton Erikson. He is at level 31 already and I just bought a nice weapon which made him deadlier than ever before.
Battles are played in the arena. You get four opponents to choose from and when you win the fight, you get the spot in the ranking of your opponent. Below you can see the opponents I can now choose from. If I for instance would attack @costanza now end win, I will get to rank 124 (and get more than my current 961 breadcrumbs every 15 minutes).
The breadcrumbs can be exchanged on Steem Engine for Steem rewards. By doing so, you can make some money and boost your Steem account. Every Sunday, the @holybread team uses 20% of the prize pool (which is filled by people buying or trading items and heroes) to buy back breadcrumbs. That means that a substantial part of the issued breadcrumbs are taken off the market every week, which guarantees a bottom in the price.
NB: I've been told that breadcrumbs can be used in-game too in the future, so you should think twice before selling it on the market.
Likes and dislikes
In general I like the game so far. You can either play all day long or just do it a couple of times a day and still make nice progress. Another thing that's probably beneficial to my positive feelings is that I got in early. Based on past experience, that is probably the best way to make some money out of most games here.
Some (minor) dislikes I have are:
- Although it is nice to see the progress during the game. The basics stay the same. You don't really get new features when you get further in the game (just different items). It would be nice to see new features (I'm sure this is something the team is working on already).
- The market in which you can buy or sell items and heroes is not very clear or easy to use. By default, you only get the latest items/heroes on sale and it is kind of hard to exactly find what you're looking for. Besides that, I find it hard to determine the right price for an item or hero. Did anyone of you already sold/bought something? And what do you consider a good way of pricing?
- You can delegate SP in order to bake bread that you can use to speed up the game. I however don't use those breads too much. It would be nice to have more benefits for delegating SP. Like getting upvotes once every while.
Rewards
One of the things I'm active on Steem is to grow the value of my account. It is nice to see that Holybread can help a bit with that. I've been active in both trading breadcrumbs (HBC) on the market and selling breadcrumbs I've received. To be honest, I cant really give an answer on whether or not that has made me a lot of Steem. I know I lost some and won some, but I don't really know a way to analyze all my trades on Steem Engine. Does anyone know a way to do so? That would be very helpful!

I've been 'playing' (read: blindly clicking) since day 2 or 3 I think. It started out pretty fun as I'm a sucker for RPG level up mechanic but quickly grew boring with no challenge whatsoever. The problem with these games is they are basically just reward pyramids where the ones who get in first get to earn something from the suckers that come in late and pay. There simply isn't enough of a game unlike steemmonsters to make the life cycle of the game long enough. It's all about the rewards and not about the gale, as those will drop, many people will likely opt-out and stop 'playing'
Good luck, we are around the same region on the ranking table. I'm sure we'll have more battles in it.
