Cantonese is arguably one of the language which has the most combination of swear words! Cantonese has a large flexibility and one word can have many meanings, that's why many combination of swear words can be formed :)

As a teacher I should not swear, but on this online platform it does not really matter :D I think no students know I am blogging here ;)

So let's swear!!!

Cantonese has 5 basic swear words:

1. 屌 (pronunciation: diu, meaning: fuck / dick)
2. 撚 (pronunciation: lun, meaning: dick / play)
3. 柒 (pronunciation: tsat, meaning: dick / stupid)
4. 鳩 (pronunciation: gau, meaning: dick / stupid)
5. 閪 (pronunciation: hai, meaning: cunt)

Note that 2-4 can be used as an adjective or adverb basically everywhere to strengthen your tone.

There are also some common words that can be used together with the above swear words:

1. 你 (pronunciation: nay, meaning: you / your)
2. 我 (pronunciation: ngo, meaning: me / my)
3. 個 (pronunciation: gor, meaning: a quantifier)
4. 臭 (pronunciation: chau, meaning: smelly)
5. 老母 (pronunciation: lo mo, meaning: old mother)
6. 含 (pronunciation: hum, meaning: suck)
7. 啦 (pronunciation: la, meaning: a modal particle)
8. 呀 (pronunciation: ah, meaning: a modal particle)

Okay, now let's try to make some swear phrases!

1. 屌你老母 (fuck your old mother, this one is probably the most well-known swear words in Cantonese. When we greet our friends, some times we say this as well!)
2. 含撚啦你 (you suck dick!)
3. 臭閪 (smelly cunt)
