World Series 2024: Dodgers Beat Yankees, Win Series 4-1; Freddie Freeman Wins MVP
The Los Angeles Dodgers are back on top. The National League team won its eighth title in franchise history
and its second title in five years (they won the World Series during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season). This is their first title in a full-length season since 1988.
The Dodgers were once again able to ride the bat of Freddie Freeman to secure this year's World Series. Freeman drove in a record-tying 12 RBIs against New York over the last five games. The showing earned Freeman World Series MVP honors.
Freeman homered in six straight World Series games during his historic run and has now easily cemented his place in baseball history.
The Yankees tried to extend the series, which would have been the first time in baseball history a team was down 3-0 and forced a game 6, but New York faltered down the stretch after starting the game with a 5-0 lead.
Aaron Judge homered early after being ineffective in the first four games of the series. The show-in for AL MVP went 4 for 18 (.222) in the five games against LA, and his batting averages dropped in the process (.184/.344/.408) in 14 postseason games. Judge also committed a costly error in the 5th inning that started New York's collapse, his first of the season.
"Ever since I've been a Yankee, getting drafted in 2013, all that was ever engrained in my head or what we were taught is win in New York," Judge said prior to this year's regular-season finale. "Be a winner. Championship mindset. It's just always been the way I was raised, even before I got here it was: If you don't win, what's the point?"
