Like all the FIFA member countries, the Bangladesh Football Federation arranges professional football leagues. There are also some domestic leagues like the Independence Cup and Federation Cup. The Federation Cup is one of the most designated football tournaments in Bangladesh.
In this edition of the Federation Cup, 10 teams are participating. They are divided into two groups, with 5 teams in each group. In Group A, the five teams are Fortis FC, Bashundhara Kings, Brothers Union, Police Club, and Dhaka Wanders Club. In Group B, the five teams are, Dhaka Abahani, Dhaka Mohammedan, Rahmatganj, Chittagong Abahani, and Fakirerpool Young Men.
From each group, there will be two teams to be promoted to the semi-final. The fourth round is going on, and we can predict the semi-finalist from group B. Rahmatganj and Dhaka Abahani, both won their first two matches and now sitting at the top of the point table with 6 points. On the other hand, Chittagong Abahani lost two of their three matches and they are sitting at the bottom with one point. Fakirerpool Young Men's Club also had only one point from two matches. It can predicted that those two teams will not qualify. On the other hand, BPL League Leapder Dhaka Mohammedan is sitting at Number 3 with 3 points from 3 matches. Today there will be two matches of that group. Dhaka Abahani will face Fakirerpool Young Men and Chittagong Abahani will face Rahmatganj. If Dhaka Abahani and Rahmatganj don't lose their matches, it will be a goodbye for Mohammedan.
But the race for the semi in group A looks interesting. Fortis FC played all four of their matches and is now sitting at the top of the table with 7 points. Both Bashundhara Kings and Brothers Union are behind Fortis FC, and both of them have 6 points on their name. Both of them have one match left and they are not facing each other. This creates a headache for Fortis FC. Bashundhara will face Dhaka Wonders, who didn't win any points. They conceded 13 goals and scored only 1. Brothers Union will face Police FC. Brothers have 6 points and Police with 4. Both teams have the chance to qualify. If the Brothers win, they will qualify directly. But the situation is different for Police FC. They have to win at least a +4 goal difference. If anything less, they have to rely on the other match. If Bashundhara loses, then they will qualify directly. If Bashundhara makes a draw, they have no chance for goal difference. If Bashundhara and Brothers win their matches, they will qualify, and Fortis will have to go. If both matches come out with no side to win, Bashundhara has to go, and Fortis will qualify because of the goal difference between Bashundhara and Fortis. This is what makes the race interesting.
The final result will come out at the end of this month. Stay tuned for the thrilling end of the tournament.
