Much Respect, Ipswich

The just concluded round of games in the Premier League saw club captains wear the rainbow armband as part of the league's campaign to show support of inclusiveness for the LGBTQ+ community, except one player.

Ipswich captain, Sam Morsy was the only player not to wear the rainbow armband due to his religious belief, Islam, which doesn't promote homophobic sexuality.

I must commend the 33-year old Egyptian for being resolute and able to stand his ground, doing his job while not compromising his belief and without the fear the criticism that could have followed.

More particularly, I commend Ipswich for standing by their captain, issuing a statement to clarify why he didn't wear it. I'm particularly pleased that they also recognize that should they have denied him that right, it would have also been counterintuitive to their proclamation of inclusiveness.

Well done to the management of Ipswich and Morsy himself.
