Steemit Learning Challenge-S21W2; Knee Osteoarthritis"
When I saw this lesson I was interested to learn and practice, knee problem is something I can't wish for anybody to have, I have a friend who has accident that affected her knees up til now she finds it difficult to walk or stand for a long time.
Knee is very important part of the body that shouldn't be overlooked, because it helps to perform life necessary things such as walking, swimming, cycling.
The stability of the body is supported by the knee as it serves as an absorber.
What's knee OA? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post.
Knee OA is that type of disease that affects the knee bone making it weak to perform it's work appropriately. When this occurs it makes the knee stiff. It also affect the hip but it's most common with the knees. This knee OA can be caused by some things such as genetics ,aging weight or lifestyles.
Signs of knee OA
Swelling . This can be seen physically on the knees.
Weakness. This is noticed at the thigh.
Pulling from the socket. The patient will be having the feeling of the knees trying to pull out from the joint.
How would you diagnose a knee OA? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?
Since this disease is in the bone to diagnose it the patient needs to go through X-rays in order to determine the extent of the damage.
Physical assessment can also take place finding out if there's any swelling on the knees.
- Knowing the patient previous knee history. This done by asking the person if there was any case of knee injury of any kind.
Try to practice at least 4 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practising.
Heel Slides exercise
I did this exercise by laying down on my back stretching my legs, bending my knees towards my buttocks. I felt the pain slightly on my knees which was the essence. The benefits of this exercise is to enable friction and helps someone to walk smoothly.
Calf & Hamstring Stretch
I improvised with bandages, I used to tie my knees and then stretched sideways.
*knee to chest
Knee Isometrics
This exercise helps to improve the knee and hip muscles.
I performed this by placing a support under my knees
Share your review after performing these exercises either on healthy individual or patient.
This is my first time of doing knee exercises, I felt it was simple, but as I tried carrying out all the mentioned exercises,I knew I have done something with my knees. I want to say that the exercise is helpful and I wouldn't stop doing atleast one out of the four every day.
Special mention
I'm inviting @shiftitamanna @aaliarubab @sduttaskitchen
Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.
Observations
Task 1 (1.5/3)
You have shared a less knowledge about knee osteoarthritis, & symptoms. But you have to add the stages, types on the basis of it's causes, location and severity of knee OA too to better explain this to other users. A bit more depth require to complete the answer. I appreciate your effort.
Task 2 (2/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you assess the patient of knee OA by doing the physical examination, history taking, investigation of patients. You can add a bit more explanation about investigations and physical examination. But it would be better if you add 1 or 2 special tests to confirm the diagnosis. Good.
Task 3 (3.5/4)
You try the heel slides, calf & hamstring stretch, William Flexion ( knee to chest exercise), Knee Isometric ( Knee flexion ), hip abduction & adduction. But while performing exercises you have performed heel slides you always try to keep your heel in contact with ground and don't perform them in fast mode. Remember always apply heating pad before performing these exercises. I appreciate your efforts.
Overall you made a good attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from any knee Osteoarthritis. Thank you.
