CORINTHIANS NINE WINS IN A ROW??! BIKE GOAL BY DEPAY?!! // The World of Sports // LetsGoCoringation
Greetings, Coringations!!
Maybe you've read one of my mostly upvoted posts this year, entitled MEMPHIS DEPAY arrives to play for CORINTHIANS, written the day that Depay arrived in the airport of São Paulo to play for our team, even before playing in the field. Because of that, I thought it would be interesting to write a post after the last game of the season.
When he got here, our team was in a very bad situation; we were in the relegation zone of the Brasileirão, our national league, however we were also alive in two quarter finals of cups, in the Copa do Brasil and in the Copa Sudamericana. We unfortunately lost in both semi-finals of the two competitions last mentioned, but we managed to keep invencibility for all the ten games in the Brasileirão since Memphis got here, tieying the first one and then finishing off with NINE WINS IN A ROW!!
The last coming today away against Grêmio, game that finished 3-0 for us, finishing our season really well! And if it seems that could not get that much better, the last goal, 3 minutes into additional time, was scored by Depay with a bicycle kick, after the ball got loose up into the air just right for him to score a beauty, that you can watch here, where I also took the screenshot of the goal to put here in this post.
Corinthians ended up improving from the 18th spot, in the relegation zone, to an incredible SEVENTH, even securing a spot in the Play-in Stage of the biggest tournament of the Americas: a Taça Libertadores da América. Keep an eye for our team in 2025... it'll be unforgettable.
LET'S GO CORINGATIOOOOOOONNN
I didn't know and I'm very surprised that Depay's made the move to Brazil. At 30, he's still got a couple of good years left in him.
That's probably the first bicycle kick in his career. The video is location-blocked but from the screenshot, I don't think much of the defending or Goalkeeper's positioning.
Hey @the-gorilla , first off I wanted to congratulate and thank you for the great work you've been doing with the frontend of steemit.com! I've been keeping up with the process since the start, and I'm almost sure that it was the great @remlaps that brought my attention to it. It's a pleasure having your comment here, specially talking about Depay and Corinthians!
I think that almost everyone here in Brasil also was very surprise to learn that he was coming, even though the Brazilian League has been receiving a number of international talents over the last years: Luis Suárez in Grêmio, Arturo Vidal in Flamengo, Payet in Vasco and even Bolasie in Criciúma. The championship here was already really competitive, and now it's even one step above. I think Depay thought that it would be a good place to reclaim his good football, and try to get back into the Clockwork Orange squad.
I searched and didn't find any other bicycle kick goal in his carrer, so I think you're right. I unfortunately forgot about the location-blockers, but I uploaded bellow a gif of an art of @danirarte from instagram of the goal (and yes, the goalkeeper was definitely not well positioned during the play:
Thank you for the feedback about the redesign. Feel free to leave a comment under one of my updates if you have any thoughts.
I've just found this video on YouTube which looks like somebody's made a highlight reel of every single touch he made. It looks like he's put on a bit of weight and he seemed to enjoy getting stuck in in the 2nd half. Generally, same old problem - end product. That final pass and decision has always been a bit of a weakness for him.
I found the goal...
The defending and goalkeeping could definitely have been better 😅
Actually, this replay's the best - it looks like the same video can't be displayed twice on one page. Strange. The URLs in the page though!
Completely unmarked for the entire move - shocking defending!
Memphis, the chosen one against Grêmio.
