World Test Championship | The World of Sports
Hello, fellow Sports Enthusiasts,
It's good to see a brand-new Sports community up and running and it's good to be here for the first time. Like you all, I am also a die-hard sports fan, but my expertise will be mostly towards Cricket. Well, you will see more from me in the future.
I know Cricket is not a very popular sport in better parts of the world. but in the past few years, International Cricket Council has done a damn good job to popularize it. Now we can see talking about the game Middle East, Europe, South and North America. With hosting the T20 World Cup in the USA and the host team showing a remarkable effort we see a bright future ahead.
Australia: 2021–23 season Champions
With the leagues and everything T20 Cricket has become most famous and entertaining. but believe me, it's the Test Cricket that contains the real beauty and essence of Cricket. I hope more associate teams will be granted the Test membership soon.
Test Cricket became more interesting and changed with the introduction of the current format of one pinnacle tournament in 2019. The top nine Test-playing nations according to the rankings are playing different series against each other over 02 years and then after all the matches as scheduled, the top two teams with the highest winning percentages will face the finals.
The first tournament held between 2019-2021 was won by New Zealand, while India was the runner-up. And Australia is the current champion once again beating India in 2023. So, now we are in the 2023–25 season!
2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship
It's the third edition and all started in June 2023 with the Ashes between Australia and Englad. The final is scheduled from 11 to 15 June 2025, in iconic Lords, London.
As mentioned above 9 teams - **Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and West Indies are competing in the tournament. There will be 27 series and 69 matches altogether in the league stage. For every team, there are three at-home and three away series. As in the previous edition, 12 points for a win, 6 for a tie, 4 for a draw, and 0 for a loss.
So, here is the points table so far.
Joe Root from England is officially the batsman of the ICC Test Championship. He is the current highest scorer of this season with 1,373 runs in 15 matches. And overall, he is the highest run-scorer, and with the Most hundreds. Most probably it's due to he is getting more matches with Ashes and can't forget he has been in a beast form in the last 03 years. In the last match against Sri Lanka, he scored two centuries in Lords.
Josh Hazlewood of Australia is the highest wicket-taker with 51 wickets in 11 matches in this season. And overall it's Nathan Lyon with 187 wickets.
So, things have been very interesting with Bangladesh winning the series against Pakistan. The made history with their first Test series win against Pakistan. Let's see what will happen in the tournament!!
Until the next time! Enjoy!
Thank you.
