The Story Of The 8 Broke Men

In a faraway land on the outskirts of the Persian Gulf, 16 broke men gathered around and one of the village messengers spoke with them. He mentioned a huge pile of abandoned jewels and gold coins on the other side of the desert. He was given the location on a map. Half of the men instantly lost interest. They said the other side of the desert was hundreds of miles away and was totally impossible to reach. The remaining 8 said they would go. They gathered 8 camels and as much food and water as possible. Once they had the treasure they would split it between them. The leader was a man called Eli. He held onto the map. He was good with directions and had travelled a lot more than the other men.

They set off at noon in high spirits, excited about returning with their riches, and boasting about what fine purchases they would make when they were back.

A hundred miles into the journey the heat started to get to them. 3 of the men turned around and said they wanted to head back, as the temperature was too much for them. Two hundred miles in another 3 turned back. They were tired and exhausted and started having doubts about whether the treasure was even real. The last two men continued for another 100 miles until one of them finally gave up. That left just Eli.

Eli carried on alone, but strong. He was determined to make it to the treasure because he had been broke for most of his life and had a lot less clothes money and luxuries than the others. He kept telling himself that he’d see the cave where the treasure lies over the next hill. He was running low on water and food, but carried on anyway. It was further away than what he thought and he was concerned as all the other villages were far away now.

Soon after his camel fell down with exhaustion and died. He walked and walked until he dropped to his knees with exhaustion. He lay down on the sand burned and severely dehydrated. He started thinking to himself this is it, this is the end.

Two men found Eli, picked him up and gave him plenty of water and food, restoring him up to full health. They set up camp for the night and talked around the fire. Eli explained his journey and the treasure that awaited. The two men agreed to help Eli if he would split the treasure and coins with them. They carried on for 3 days until they finally arrived at the treasure. There was more than they could carry. They split it and gave Eli a new camel. Eli was given a map showing a safe route back to his village.

He kept a large sum for himself and shared the rest out with people in the village. He not only returned rich, but he had the reputation of a hero with courage and bravery. He was known around the village and his life changed forever.

The journey wasn’t just about the treasure but of the person he became along the adventure and the life he had earned once he returned home.

I hope this story will give you the motivation and perseverence to succeed in life.
