Contest Entry - Master the light with manual photo setting - ISO
PHOTOGRAPHY - ISO
The word ‘Photography’ originated from the Greek roots ‘photo’ (light) and ‘graph’ (drawing) which when put together means " light drawing or drawing with light".
Photography is the process of creating images using light. But, simply capturing an image does not make one a photographer or good at photography. Becoming a good photographer means that you must know how to take good photographs by learning and understanding the various techniques and concepts of photography.
In this article, I will examine the ISO function using the manual settings on my mobile phone camera.
ISO
The ISO refers to the camera’s sensitivity to light and it usually ranges from 50-3200. The higher the ISO, the higher its sensitivity to light. In other words, the higher the ISO, the brighter the image, and the lower the picture, the darker the image. The pictures below show how the different ISO values affect a picture.
From the pictures above, it is observed that the higher the ISO, the more light the camera captures and vice versa. It is also true that the higher the ISO, the lower the focus and detail in the picture, just as it is in the first picture. In order to preserve the details in a picture, it is best to keep the ISO as low as possible, as we saw in the first photo.
However, in nighttime photography, such as the "night mode" on most smartphones today, increasing the ISO to a very high level can provide excellent images.
Conclusion
Light is crucial to photography, and a wide range of light control abilities are required for successful photography.
