Are We Actually Starving?!

Is there a chance that we as humans could actually be starving? I know this sounds like a weird idea, but hear me out.

Years ago I started paying more attention to my health, and the health of my family members. My dad has had heart attacks and a stroke, and now has to be very aware of everything that he is consuming. So learning about what he went through, and what he has to deal with...it really put me on a different path.

When I was working over in Wisconsin, I worked for a company that had pretty amazing insurance. Part of that insurance was that I would get tested and they would check my numbers for everything, and then my insurance rates would reflect my general level of health.

While I was going through all of that, I had to pay some higher premiums. I am 6'5 and 270 lbs. Just on their chart I was labeled as obese. Turns out that they think I should weight 215 lbs haha. I don't think that will happen.

That's when I really started to learn about nutrition, and how our bodies respond. I started to learn about how our bodies function, and how we actually absorb nutrients. When we eat the food, and then our bodies being the perfect technology that they are, rips it apart and turns it into body.

Unfortunately, it isn't always that simple. Sometimes our bodies have issues with this process, and we actually have trouble absorbing nutrients. It doesn't even matter what our diets look like, and if our bodies can't do it, we show the signs of illness.

Like I was saying above about my dad. He has had issues the resemble strokes since his initial stroke, but it turned out that is body wasn't taking in enough B vitamins. So even with his "normal" diet, he was having issue absorbing certain nutrients.

That is what lead me down the path of gut health, fasting, autophagy, and general awareness about what I eat. I have been plant based now for 8 years, and I try to be mindful everyday about what I am consuming....not just what I am eating, but also what I am hearing and seeing.

That is what lead me to the food that is in the grocery stores. Is it possible that the food meets our calorie limits for the day, but the nutrients aren't really there. Is it possible that we are all eating enough calories, but are actually starving on a cellular level?! I think so.

I think that it might start a cycle. If we eat food that convinces us that we have enough calories and energy for the day, but not the actual nutrients that our bodies need to live, we could become less healthy. If we become less healthy, then our bodies will need different nutrients to get back to "normal". So now we didn't have what we initially needed to carry on, and now we don't have what we need to repair the damage.

I will never tell someone what they should or should not eat. I am just drawing some lines between a cause and effect. Now that we are living in the time of "the great virus", is it possible that we are not ready. Have we depleted ourselves of nutrition for so long that now our bodies aren't prepared to fight?

Are we seeing the effects of a new "terrible" virus, or could we possibly be seeing the results of decades of poor health? I'm not saying that I am an expert in anything, and I don't believe I am suffering from the Dunning-Kruger Effect haha.

I would just hope that as we all are facing our individual issues, that maybe we would take a minute and think about what is happening locally. By local, I'm not talking about your town...I'm talking about your own body.

Be well

Makes me think this could be part of the reason some people don’t suffer as much from the virus as others. That and stress levels I’m sure plays a big part as well.

Yeah maybe. I think this would explain alot of things in our world. Like why there are so many new issues that weren't as extreme in the past.
