What Defines Your Self-Worth?

During my undergraduate days, I met a clique of girls called "The Toppers".

These five girls from various high-brow secondary schools across my state, went everywhere together; from class, to church, and to seminars and conferences held on and off campus.

Because of their background, they were exceptional smart and intelligent.

We saw them as the next generation leaders.

Soon, a particular girl began to experience some challenges at home. She started fending for herself and three younger brothers.

The shawarma stand she worked for paid her very little, so she took on more side hustles. Soon, her grades began to drop.

For three consecutive semesters, she earned more B's and C's, and less A's. Her CGPA dropped from a first-class to a second-class upper division. She couldn't keep up with the lifestyle her mother's former wealth sustained too.

Because of the turn out of events in her life, she became more redrawn and concluded that she was an utter failure and deserved less.

I observed this so I spoke to her on why she should never tie her self-worth to external factors like her financial status or academic performance.

Sometimes when determining our value, we often look at the material things we have, who we know, and in other cases, the likes or supports we receive from others.

However, our self-worth goes beyond these things.

It is not measured by comparing our achievements, followers count or physical looks with other successful people. Doing this would make you feel inadequate or discouraged.

So, my dear steemian reading this,
I need you to believe that you are incredibly smart and unique. You deserve every good thing and respect regardless of what your bank account, level of education, etc. says.

Join me in reminding anyone who feels less of themselves that they truly deserve better.
