Scalp Massage vs Healthy Hair Growth

Good day steaming Steemians, glad to be a part of you today. Today, we shall talk about a topic I think many especially our ladies love to indulged in; Healthy Hair Growth. We all have different beliefs and practices related to what actually makes our hair grow faster, but here, I'm going to touch on one very important aspect that I think most people ignore or neglect.

Growing up, like most people I learnt that, plaiting hair makes it grow faster, I'm sure you are nodding your head at this😀. I later understood that our hair is elastic and ofcourse when pulled (through braiding or plaiting), will stretch and seem longer than it used to be. This pulling actually has nothing to do with the hair roots where growth actually occurs, except for the fact that it helps to uproot or dislodge it from its implantation. Surprised😲 ? This act pulls and disconnects the hair root from its source of nutrient supply beneath the skin, waiting to be pulled out during hair washing or combing after the braids are undone.

There are other great factors which could help in speedy and healthy hair growth like good diet and adequate rest, but these will not be very efficient if the "vehicle" that's responsible for nutrient transportation isn't efficient; blood circulation. When there is slow blood circulation or blood stagnation especially at the scalp, the following happen:

  • The metabolic waste secreted by the cells at the scalp accumulates on the spot, cannot or is difficultly carried away for elimination due to poor blood circulation or stagnation.
  • In the same way, new blood carrying fresh nutrients finds it difficult to supply the hair bulb (root). Hair then starves, the bulb dies and the consequence is hair loss.

These ofcourse can be reversed if the cause of hair loss isn't congenital.

  1. The first possibility is avoiding a sedentary life style (sitting around and doing little or no physical efforts). We are responsible for the rate of blood flow in our bodies through our activites. Frequent excercises and workouts helps the heart to pump more blood and at a faster rate, pushing blood to reach areas where it would normally be difficult to reach if one were less active.
  2. The second possibility and the reason for this post is scalp massage.👇
    Scalp massage is very important towards boosting speedy and healthy hair growth. The light petrissage movements, friction and tapotements on the scalp help to push away stagnant blood carrying metabolic waste for elimination , and is automatically replaced by fresh blood carrying nutrients from digestion. It equally helps to relax tense nerves beneath the scalp. This process is so very relaxing that everyone would love to receive a scalp massage every now and then.

I make it a duty while caring for my hair service clients ( male and female) to always insert a scalp massage session in their service, whichever hair service they come for.
