Steem Cameroon Contest-International Universal Health Coverage Day(Pakistan)
International Universal Health Coverage Day: 12 December
International Universal Health Coverage Day refers to the December 12 to commemorate the enlistment of universal health coverage as a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal.
UHC Day or Universal Health Coverage Day commemorated on the twelfth of December each year is a call for and about better health systems and powerful UHC – you, me, us, we: No one facing financial difficulty when accessing needed health services. It is the day in 2012 when the leaders of the world recommitted to put UHC at the centre of post 2015 development agenda.
Quality health services are delivered to people without jeopardizing their financial independence through health for all. This means that everyone, anybody, is included in the society, even in the poor ones or the less privileged ones. Investing in health fosters health and nutritional standards of populations and empowers development in countries through poverty eradication, gender equity and overall development.
Q3: Based on information and data presented, what has been the extent of experience of the Universal Health Coverage Day on communities? |
---|
Universal Health Coverage Day has kept focus on the goal and has empowered people through creating awareness on healthcare to all. The end result has been increased funding on the side of health sectors and the taking of measures for guarantee insurance or as the guarantee all over the world but most particularly for the LMN countries. Almost all communities have realized enhanced provision of affordable and quality essential health care services, decreased out of pocket expenditure, as well as the general enhanced health status.
Mascot Proposal: Dr. Health
Description:A red caped, friendly physician who is wearing a stethoscope around his neck is Dr. Health, the doctor patient relationship, and the heal aspect of health care. Dr. Health has a big smile and warm, inviting eyes, intentions reflecting the caring and understanding, which patient expects to receive and, in many cases, pays for – from a clinician. A black and white tile body of his, where each colour represents a health challenges and an intervention process.
In line with this year’s celebration of the Universal Health Coverage Day, the mascot Dr. Health appeals to people and advocates for affordable quality health care for everyone. With him, one can conduct campaigns, events, and sharing materials on the social media to encourage people to support health systems and give everyone an equal change of having a healthy life.
Many different organizations and government bodies support Universal Health Coverage Day. These include WHO, United Nations, and several organizations of NGOs as well as ministry of health of different countries. Such promoters complement each other to keep the international community informed and to pressurize countries into funding their healthcare systems.
To have an even greater impact, the following actions can be taken:
They need more countries to start making commitments and actually undertake tangible acts towards UNIVERSAL HEALTH MODERNIZATION.
ALSO, there is need to enhance the resources for health systems and for enhancing health care access mostly in LMICs .
Public sensitisation including the advocacy messages, which should encourage UHC and the impact of UHC and its absence must be conducted.
Continue to build government, NGO and private sector cooperation to enable implementation of measures that will achieve UHC.

Finally, IUHCD has worked towards universal health coverage by achieving considerable strides towards the sustainable vision of one universally healthy people. It has become easy for people to understand because we introduced a mascot known as Dr. Health. Part of the progress upon which we have been able to build has come from the collaborative work of many agencies and individuals. In any case, many more efforts should be made to further advance UHC and sustain the progress achieved. It can be achieved by urging people to make greater commitments, by providing more money, by raising the profile of the problem, and by linking up with other organizations. This is the only way, we can guarantee that for any given individual including the poor, they can get the health services they require without incurring otherwise burdensome expense.
