As we progress through this article, we will look at the history and culture of Arabic language, assessing its impact on other languages and world’s civilizations and determining the obstacles it has potentially met in the contemporary world.

The Great History of Arabic

Arabic language is a Semitic language which is a part of language family that includes the like of Hebrew, Aramaic and Amharic. The Arabian peninsula is where they said the Arabic language came from in the fifth century AD of the Old Arabic spoken by the nomadic tribes of the region.

Islam appeared in the seventh century, when the Arab civilization peaked, by developing its apogee and the language was rapidly spread throughout the Arab states for religious, political and cultural purposes. Through this process Muslim jurists and scientists started to translate the works of the Greek and Roman thinkers into Arabic and with the mediums of this knowledge spread from middle east to far off places.

First it interacted with other languages mostly with regard to change their word and grammatical structures through borrowing. For instance, think of, ‘algebra,’ ‘sugar,’ ‘admiral,’ and a host of other English words and you'll notice that a big number of them come from Arabic. Furthermore, the great use of the Arabic numeral system has played on the thinking and solution of problems to numbers in modern mathematics and science world.

Arabic Language: As a Universal medium or a Communication platform

For all those years, Arabic as a language has been used as a means to convey cultural relations and global interaction. It has been co intrinsic to the Islamic civilization as the language of the religion and one of the major world religion in a very short time.

Furthermore, Arabic literature poetry and calligraphy are among the greatest and most advanced of the art globally. However even today such great works of literature and philosophy have been written by writers like Al-Mutanabbi, Al Mařrí and philosophers like Al Kindí, Al Farabí and Al Ghazálli; Arabic calligraphy is one of the main aspects of Islamic art even today.
Recently the arabic language has been used on the international relations since diplomacy and as Middle East mediator among the neighboring countries and the world. Due to the enhancing of cultures globalization and the emergence of new technologies, it has never been easier for the individual to understand how to communicate cross culturally and cross linguistically.

The Problems that cones with Using the Arabic Language in the Contemporary World

Still, it’s one of the most historical and culturally significant language of the entire world, but it hasn’t been proper in the modern world. This is because millions of Arabic speakers around the globe still don’t have access to the internet and they can’t get involved in online opportunities and conversations.

However, there is no inclination among the younger Arab generations in Arab countries to learn the Arabic language. They attributed it on political instability, hardship in the economies, cultural dominance of the English language in global business and technology.

To tackle with those challenges, thus, there is a need to support Arabic language learning and advocate Arabic language in the globalised world. The governments, the educational institutions and organizations in charge of culture should ensure Arabs chance to practice their language and at the same time get to learn more about their language and the culture it embodies.

Conclusion

I would like to on the occasion of Arabic Language Day remind you of the rich history and the extraordinary legacy of the Arabic language to the world culture, science and literature. It plays a major role in breaking ice and facilitating communication, diplomacy, and cultural, social relations with Arabs and with the rest of the world.

Yet, Arabic language has so many challenges today as the divide and gap in the modern techniques in the new world and the declining trends in the young ones in learning the language. Consequently however, there is a need as of now to bring to bear awareness for the importance of Arabic in an increasingly connected world.

On Arabic Language Day it is important that individuals should also understand the significance and role of this language in today’s world. In doing so, we can guarantee the evolution of Arabic, and help to inspire generations of travellers and writers for the next three hundred years and beyond.
