Ecology studies how living things (biotic factors) and non-living things (abiotic factors) interact within their environments. It is well detailed on how organisms interact with each other and the physical environment. Ecology is seen at the five different levels: Organism, Community, Population, Ecosystem, and Biosphere.

In the presence of the numerous diversity of living organisms put together, starting from ferns to trees, tinny inset to Mammals, etc, available in environments like a forest with a different landscape. Ecology is the branch of biology that studies the interaction of these organisms with each other and their physical environment. The main objective of ecologists is to understand life processes, adaptations, and habitats of organisms. Examples :

  • You can find cockroaches living under the bed and dark conners
  • You can find mold growing in the shower.
  • You can find Lion in the Forest etc

Ecology levels fall under two factors, Biotic and Abiotic. Ecology is about understanding these factors, which include both living and nonliving things' interaction with their environment.

  • Biotics is about living factors of the ecosystem, such as bacteria, birds, fungi, etc.

  • Abiotic is about non-living chemicals and physical factors, such as soil, sunlight, air, etc.

Ecological Levels

Ecology is broken into five levels, which sometimes overlap: organism, population, community, ecosystem, and biosphere.

Organism: This level is about studying the adaptations(morphological, physiological, or behavioral), natural selections, and benefits that permit an organism to stay in a specific environment.

Population: This level has to do with the numbers and species of an organism within a specific area at a particular time. Population ecologists put together the size and density with consideration of how they change with time.

Community: This level has to study different species that are living within a specific area to make up a biological community. Community ecologists are interested in the interactions between the different species and the environment.

Ecosystem: This level consists of all the organism, community, and physical factors(abiotic) that influence that community.

Biosphere: The planet Earth is known as the Biosphere, which is the ecological system. This level has to do with the study of climate, phenomena or species distribution, and their interaction on the entire globe.

These five levels can be divided into three, that is

  • Organism, Community, Population
  • Ecosystem
  • The Biosphere

To end our study for today, these five levels are classified from small to large. Organisms are grouped to make a community, a community made up of population, population, and environment makes the ecosystem. The above small block group together with abiotic factors make the Biosphere. All these levels are linked together to make what biologists called the Ecological system.
