Greeting Steemit Family

For some days we have had some challenges with our internet at the office and my home. Using the Mobile regional subscription, you have 60 days to stay out of the area where your kit was purchased. It has limited my work both at the office and at home. I have been using other alternative internet sources. What I'm talking about is Starlink.

StarLink is a satellite internet provider under the spaceX cooperation in the US. They can offer internet all over the globe in areas where our normal broadband internet is limited or unavailable. All you need is a kid, an area view of the sky and you have high-speed internet.

How do we manage to have these services?

You need to purchase the Starlink Kit, which has four components in the pack. That is the Dish, Wi-Fi router, the Cable and the Mounting hardware.

The Dish is the antenna, which needs to be placed in an open area facing the sky. That is how the satellite signal is received by connecting to the Starlink satellites in the sky.

The Wi-Fi router is placed indoors for the distribution of internal signals in the house. The router can connect over multiple devices in a home.

The cables are the power cable, the Ethernet cable, and the cable that connects the dish and the router. The power cable is to supply current to the router, and the Ethernet cable is in case you need a wire connection. Remember the Wi-Fi router offers a Wi-Fi signal, which you don't need a cable to connect.

Lastly, the mounting hardware. It is a stand that is used to mount the dish and can be placed on the ground or the roof. The mount has good stability to handle the dish when placed to have a clear view of the sky.

You have Set it up, The Good thing about this kit is how easy it is to set up. Position your dish to have a clear view of the sky, and connect the cables. Start by connecting the cable connecting the dish outdoors and the router indoors. Next, connect the power cable to power the router. Note, that the wifi router doesn't have a power button to on/off the router. So by connecting power, you have auto on the router.

By now you have made every necessary connection, to have access to the internet. You have to have an active subscription, and to activate a service. You need to download the Starlink application from the Apple Store or Play Store to follow the instructions. Once you have an active subscription, you enjoy high-speed Internet with low latency.

Setback:

  • Starlink is not authorized to operate in every country in the world. So for that reason, residents in some countries will force users to use a more expensive subscription to have access to Starlink Internet. For example, those of us in Cameroon can not subscribe to a standard package, but with a mobile regional or global subscription.

  • Starlink dishes need to have a clear view of the sky to be able to work well.

Above all, it is still the best as of now if you can afford a kit and an active subscription. Note if you are using a Mobile regional subscription, those of us are in Cameroon. You have 60 days to return your kit to the location where you purchased it to reactivate it for the next 60 days. That is the cost you should be ready to incur if you are getting the kit from Nigeria.

The Kit is about 350 000 FCFA, and can easily be gotten for Nigerian. Following the new subscription price which was emailed last month. You should have plans to pay about 70000 FCFA per month for the Mobile Regional Plan. So, that is the estimate you should have in mind. If you want to buy from Vedors here in Cameroon, you should be looking a about 450 000 to 500 000 FCFA. The Price I mentioned above, is what you can get from the official website in Naria if you want to ship through Nigeria. Cameroon is not yet eligible to ship Starlink kits directly.
