Vocation Day party and more 🎉🎊 Diary Game (10/12/22).
Hello everyone, I hope you all had a good day. Alhamdulillah I’m doing fine as well. Today I want to share with you folks how I spent my day (yesterday).
Today was a grand day for me and for everyone in my school, including students teachers and as well as non teaching staff. Today was our last day in the school for the trimester, today was our last day in school for 2022 and most importantly today was the last day of my students in basic three. Today was our vocation day.
After taking my bath today, I brushed quickly, ironed my clothes, clean my shoes and got my motorcycle ready for school. Whilst I was doing all the chores, I could not stop thinking of what’s going to happen in school today. I knew for sure that it was going to be fantastic, but I just didn’t know how. This’s my first vocation experience as a school teacher so I was kinda not certain about what to expect. But all in all I was very positive and ready for ‘Our Day’.
I got to the school (earlier than usual. Lol) and waited for my students to start trooping in. Most of them were late, but gradually my class was full. Everyone was present today.
As expected, my students gifted me tons of gifts. Food, biscuits, soft drinks and beautiful art works. I was overwhelmed by their kindness and generosity. I thanked them so much and asked them to extend my gratitude and appreciation to their parents. What amazed me was that, whilst I was collecting all these gifts, my mind was fixed on how I am going to share it all with my siblings and other children in my house.
After confirming from my co teacher (Madam Ruth), I broke the most anticipated news to my students. Who and who would fall among the unfortunate ones that are going to be demoted and which people will be among the hardworking ones who would be promoted to basic four? After compiling all the results of this trimester exams and the previous ones, fortunately 100% of the class crossed the pass mark (at least 70% in all core subjects and at least 60% in elective or optional subjects). No one was going to repeat basic three (demoted).
The whole class including myself was overwhelmed with this great announcement. I could see the joy on their faces.
It was later time to feast. The big party was about to start. Everyone brought out the food they brought from home. Most of the foods were cooked in the house. The foods were amazing. Their parents surely took their time to prepare these fantastic meals. I ate a plate of fried rice and chicken that one of my students (Alliah) had gifted me. But in fact that did not stop me from tasting the wonderful delicacies the other students brought to eat.
Finally it was time for closing. We took group pictures played music and danced, hugged goodbye and went outside to the assembly grounds to listen to the headteacher’s closing remarks.
It was difficult saying good bye to my children. I am definitely going to miss each and everyone of these little Engels😢.
School shall reopen on 06/01/23. I can wait to be reunited with children again.
When I got home after closing, I shared my ‘art and craft’ gifts to my siblings and other children in my house. They were very excited to receive them. Most of the snacks my students gifted me are very expensive that neither my father nor myself could afford to buy it for my siblings. Nobody even have money for snacks in my household. Biscuits are not really that important. (there are thousands of other very important things to spend our little unsustainable incomes on. **a very typical poor African saying 😪).
Afterwards I went to a football viewing center and watched the World Cup games. It was very thrilling. But all through something kept striking my mind and I got goosebumps each time it happened, my students! In just two months of being with them, I’ve easily grown found them and they have won a very special spot in my heart. Truly truly, I cannot wait to see them again.
