Steem greetings to everyone in this community, I hope your weekends are great. My name is Fataw Freeman, I am a blockchain newbie and I live in Tamale, Ghana 🇬🇭. Welcome to my Diary Game.

This Saturday (07/01/23) was the day of the much anticipated Savannah Developers Network conference. I registered for this program some few weeks ago through a WhatsApp link. I shared the registration link to my sister and two of her friends to also register and take part in this amazing event. I was soo excited today. Myself and my sister got ready first, we decided to take the lead and go ahead of her two other friends. The program was scheduled to start at 9:00am and close at 12:am. The venue was in the new Tamale sports stadium.

Savannah Developers Network is a Network of young computer developers and other people in the software industry in the five northern regions of Ghana. Computer development and software engineering is not very popular in these regions of Ghana.

The program did not meet the expectations I had, the organization and everything was far basic compared to what I had imagined. This is not my first time attending a program by “software people” .
First of all, the hall they choose for the program was very small, the stadium has other auditoriums which are much bigger and conducive than the one they choose. Due to the inadequate space in the hall, the chairs were poorly spaced and there was almost no stage( it was very close to the ground with no decorations).

Even though what I saw was far below what I expected, I still did not regret attending this conference. As far as the sound system was good and there was a functioning air conditioner, I was positive that they’ll deliver brilliantly.

The first speaker (Mr Rafik) who is the founder of the Savannah Developers Network and also my senior school prefect back at high school. I was excited to see him again. I hadn’t seen him since he left our school after BECE(2021). He spoke brilliantly on the theme of the conference “Promoting Digital Skills and Exploring Job Opportunities in Tech”.
The tech industry is not very popular here which we can adopt as an advantage to explore the vast space and opportunities which are yet to be uncovered.
He also spoke about the vision he has for the movement, which is to bring together creatives and all other people in the digital space who are from these northern hemisphere of Ghana to form a holistic body and to combat poverty and create softwares that’ll improve the lives of people in northern Ghana.

The second speaker spoke on the importance of inclusion and diversity in web development. As a Developers we need to understand that the fundamental purpose of creating or developing is to make living more convenient. When developing apps, we should consider everyone including people with special needs. Including people from all works of life in our creative and development processes would help us develop apps that can solve common problems that everyone faces.

After the speakers were done with their presentations, some of the audience asked important questions relating to the theme of the program which they (the speakers) gave brilliant and convincing replies to.

At the end of the program, I was interviewed by the media. I responded to questions like “why are you here today?” and “what have you lent here today?” I gave honest replies and also made some suggestions as to how to go by the organization in our next coming conference. I was a bit nervous as I am not very familiar with cameras.

Even though there were some minor setbacks with organization and logistics, the conference was a very educative one. I met amazing people who owns startups in tech. I learned a lot from these people.
The Savannah Developers Network Conference was amazing and I cannot wait for our next meeting.
