Maternal and Childhealth needs 27/07/2021.

Hi good evening steemit members i will like to share some positive points on daily requirements for expectant (pregnant)and breastfeed mothers.
Carbohydrate
Protein and
Fats.
Going to the nutrition component,much nutrients are required to boost the overall growth of the foetus and the mother who herself goes through a period of growth to carry the child and prepare for lactation(breastfeeding).

Energy(carbohydrate and dietary fibre).
Carbohydrate constitute the largest source of energy in the diet.Sufficient energy requirements leads to optimal growth of the foetus (unborn child) while providing energy for the mother.Insufficient intake leads to reduced weight of the mother,and subsiquently restricted foetal growth.Carbohydrate stores are necessary to increase maternal glucose uptake by the tissues and thus metabolism.(breakdowm and used by the tissues of the body).Choice of foods to boost energy level should be focus on those with essential vitamins and minerals such as milk products,high fibre foods,lean meat,fruits and vegitables etc .Dietary fibres are present in all plant materials and essential for proper gut functioning and reduces a number of diseases including diabetes.It is very neccessary for pregnant women to take much quantity to prevent risk of haemorrhoids,constipation and diverticulitis.
Proteins.Are essential in building a healthy baby as it forms the structural bases for cell and tissue build up in the mother and foetus.Proteins from animal sources such as meat,seafood,eggs, milk and milk products, poutry tends to have high quality requirements because they contain all the essential amino acids.Those from plant sources have low efficiency and donot contain all the essential amino acids.Low consumption of protien intake has devastating effects such as low birth weight and birth lenght.FL(foetal length) and this further poses problems of maternal mobidity and foetal motality.Also high protein intake of morethan 20% of total energy demands may have side effects on birth weight and shoukd be avoided.Ammonia and Urea are produced in protein metabolism and the foetus have limited chances of detoxifying them(premacture liver)especially in the 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Pregnant women should have atleast two daily servings of poutry,lean meat,seafood,eggs,nuts etc .
Women whose main source of protein is from plant malterials should consume much quantities of legumes,wholegrain,breads,cereals etc to provide adequate protein.
High protein intake of over 20% during pregnancy should be discourage. (Ammonia and Urea).
Fats.
During pregnancy the foetus uses fat as food from the mother.Later the foetus makes its own food contributing to high demands in the newborn.Consumption of oilly fish in pregnancy are associated with a reduce incidence of preterm and low birthweight foetus.The recommended fatty intake for pregnant women is 20-35% of energy intake and shoukd not exceed this level. Diets with lessthan 20% the fat component should be avoided or increase to reach its maximum level as decrease could lead to depletion in breast milk.Choose polyunsaturated and monounsaturated margarine (fortified with vitamin D)over butter.
Fried foods should occasionally be consumed. Rather those with natural portions of natural fats at the stipulated quantity.
