The Price you Pay for your Ignorance.

Steem greetings @everyone all the way from the motherland-Cameroon and welcome to my blog as I share another interesting piece about ignorance.

In life we often are faced with different life challenges and if not well empowered to manage these challenges, we end up paying a huge price either for our ignorance or for trying hard to overcome.

Apparently, we often heard of “…knowledge is power”. Of course, knowledge is power indeed because at times on the process of overcoming the challenges, knowledge plays a vital role.

If my memory hasn’t failed me, I remembered when I was a kid and we were told series of rules to be strictly obeyed else calamities will befall on those that failed to obey the rules. Within the African context, when I talk about rules, these were traditional stereotypes that were strongly uphold as rules governing the society.

Within the royal family, there were certain rules put in place which only affected women and some of such rules were as follows: as a woman, during menstruation you are not allowed to go into the royal chambers noh see the Fon else you will bleed till death, and “…you do not taste the food you are cooking for the fon without first giving it to an innocent child to taste first”.

To me these were ridiculous rules and I never for once believed in such rules. Most often I found myself asking lots of questions to find out why such rules were implemented but to my greatest surprise, the rule of women not seeing the fon during menstruation was because in those days, there were no pads for women to use during menstruation. They literally got stained during the menstruation period and it was seen as unclean seeing the Fon in such a manner.

No one cares about questioning some of these rules and decided to swim in their ignorance and pay the price for being ignorant. For years many women had suffered this in my community due to ancestral rules with no proof.

Many women had suffered humiliation within my community just because of ignorance.

In sum, I will say empower yourself with knowledge because at times in life it is your knowledge that saves you from destruction. When you are empowered with knowledge, you can clearly see when being manipulated to accept the wrong things.

Greeting Mam @chant !!!! thank you so much for sharing a thoughtful piece about the importance of knowledge and how ignorance can affect our lives. I 100% agree with you that we face many challenges in our daily lives and these can be overcome through our vast knowledge. As you find in your society many rules affected women the same occurred in our country as well. We women are suppressed by following some so-called rules of society. You have beautifully shared an example by informing us that how ignorance can be caused by some unnecessary suffering. As you said Knowledge is power and when we are informed we can be able to challenge all outdated beliefs and prevent them. It’s a powerful reminder for us throughout the story of the woman who was suffered due to unproven ancestral rules. We can say that keeping ourselves in ignorance could be a high price to pay. Your encouragement and valuable knowledge bound me to think again about the ignorance that we still carry in our daily lives and I personally will not follow those in my further life.

I am so happy that you found my article interesting to read. Many of us suffer from ignorance and until we empowered ourselves with knowledge, we will be able to fight all the unjust rules within the society. I often believe that it takes one to start creating the awareness and the rest will follow suit. We have to change the narrative.

Yes mam agree with your thought💖

Congratulations on bringing a quality content. You have earned a positive vote from team 2, and it is delivered by @starrchris.

Good day @chant I strongly believe in what you are saying. That's why I say that ignorance Is a decease. Although we can not know everything but trying to know most of the things we do will help us. Thanks for sharing with us.

Ignorance is a disease indeed. To me knowledge is power and knowing a bit of everything makes you aware of what to do and what not to do. Thank you for your support.
