The Life of a Career Woman and a mother: 06/08/2021

in Steem Cameroon3 years ago (edited)

Hello dear steemians and hope we all are excited for the weekend gists. Most often many working class women used their weekends to relax, chat and catch up fun with friends. To vulnerable women especially those in abusive relationships, wish weekends do not come as their abusive partners drink through out the weekend, get drunk and tortured their wives. If you are such an abusive uncle, I still greet you while hoping that one day you gonna cherish a woman.

I am a mother of three kids ( two biological, and one by marriage🤪🤪). I know many will wonder that how can you have a child by marriage🤔🤔🤔. Yes and yes the one by marriage is my husband. I am a gender expert the reason why I am so in to issues of gender, creating awareness, counseling, psychosocial support and equally a mediator. Managing a home and a career at the same time is challenging. I bet you it’s not easy at all but I still manage to go through with the help of my husband.

I am supposed to be in the office at 8:00am, and closed at 5:00pm. Even though I have a live out nanny but I am someone who does not want to be idle for a minute. So despite her presence, I still keep myself busy with work and managing the home. I usually wake up from bed at about 4:00am-5:00am to prepare breakfast and prepare my daughter for school. I make sure I’m in the office on time, adjust myself and draw a plan of work for the day, start my activities for the day.

My work has a lot to do with field interventions. So most often, I go into communities to do sensitization, to create awareness, change attitudes and behaviors that promotes Gender Based Violence. In a week I go to the field at least 3 times a week. I have a radio program I run every Wednesday of the week. I usually have counseling sessions and psychosocial support twice a week. Mediation happens any time within the week.

After all the tight schedule at work, I still need to cook for the family. Imagine after having a busy day in the field talking and then come back home and need to cook for the family. With all the tiredness, they demand for “kwacoco bible”, one of our Cameroon delicacy. That is exactly what at times I go through.

I arranged all my ingredients as seen in the pictures above then placed on the cooker. While it was cooking I was already looking as someone who have not slept for a month. I still have to serve the meal, take a bath and still spent some time with the kids before going to bed. At times on the bed just the workload that awaits you the next day is unimaginable.

Despite all the tiredness, I still have to feed the kids, put them to sleep. The worst is when one of them is sleeping and the other person is still looking at places as if she has no program to sleep early😥😓😥😥.

Imagine after going through all these in a day, comes back home and meet an abusive husband. Then the frustration is huge. To fight gender based Violence is a collective effort. An individual cannot fight it alone, so my plea is let’s change the narratives together because I believe in collective efforts. Thanks for reading my story and I hope 🤞we will fight till the end. Steemon🤞🤞🤞🤞

A clear example of an African mother, her kids always remain her true priority no matter the huddles of work and the pressure that comes with it most times. A good example for us to follow, thanks for sharing
