"Steem Cameroon Best day Contest - 7th September, 2024
It was a weekend, probably one of the best weekends I've had. A Steemian was getting married, and I was there to celebrate him. This Steemian is a Nigerian with the username @ubikool. It was a Saturday when he would exchange marital vows with his woman traditionally. It's not an easy thing to find love these days, and even if it were, the economy is seriously frowning as to the cost of living.
On that fateful day, rain took our hopes to the next level. My intentions of attending the marriage diminished as I couldn't just dress appropriately and then go out for rain to mess up. Luckily for us, it stopped exactly when the marriage was about to commence. I travelled all the way from Uyo to Nsit Atai, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria with a steemian @ngoenyi to witness how this sealing would be done traditionally.
This is a picture of me and the Steemian as we boarded a vehicle that would convey us down there. The distance was a 20-minute drive, and we had to leave. We boarded a vehicle from a junction in Uyo and then moved to the place the event was held at another local government area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
On getting there, we saw @ubikool and his groomsmen entertaining his guest in one house. We were treated as guests as we were and were given food and drinks while waiting for the event to commence in no time.
It was a traditional marriage, and traditional marriages usually commence late in the evening. This groom was in his happiest mood, as he'll be given the love of his life through traditional customs. As the acting photographer, I did what I knew how to do best with my mobile device.
His traditional attire was worn with elegance and beauty, and I took pictures of his siblings and him in particular as the man of the day. Smiles expanded his cheeks as he roomed about, impatient to meet his wife to be.
As tradition demands, a man would be introduced first to this event centre before his bride. So we, as friends of the groom, took him out of his custody down to the happening place to show off. Traditional songs that fit each dance step were played as we brought the groom for presentation.
I felt his energy, vibes, and strength, ready to conquer and grab. He was tested for fitness to see if the man we brought forward would actually be able to take care of the woman that would be presented to him. This Ibibio culture in Nigeria usually uses dance to test if he'll be able to handle the woman. Once he successfully passed the dance challenge, he would be introduced to his sunshine.
We knew our man, our steemian, my mentee. He smashed the test and was taken to sit up in his palace while waiting for a bride. The same was done to the wife, as she was brought out by her accomplices. She danced gracefully and shared energy with the crowd who surrounded her with phones to capture her beautiful look.
I was one of the certified photographers, but it seems everyone wanted to be a photographer. She equally passed the test and was taken to meet her husband before the traditional rite was done. The bride presented her husband to her parents with a drink, and the groom did the same with a drink to receive blessings from both parents.
It was a wonderful union, and the master of ceremonies was giving heated vibes. He knew what he was doing. After the rites were done, we took pictures with the couple and others who were guests. As a steemian, we members of the steemit family supported him physically by being there to put smiles on their phases. In attendance were @emmichael, @alli001, @ngoenyi, @jewel005, and @okere-blessing.
After the pictures, @alli001 and I gave a different vibe that drew attention. We nailed some crazy dancing with so much energy. I felt like I did the dancing unaware that people were videoing me. Anyway, we rocked. It was a while before I created such smiles on my face. Check the video above to see our dance.
It was the best day of the week for me because I stepped out of the house. I've been indoors on academic projects, which fixed me in one place. I finally saw the sky and felt the wind blow. I was also happy @ubikool was happy, and the presence of the Steemians who were in attendance made me feel like I have a big social family who can turn up for you anytime.
That's how my day went. For more videos, you can visit my YouTube channel, subscribe, and laugh your tongue out.
