MARGINALISATION OF IGBO WOMEN

A lady was ostracised immediately after the death of her husband. Immediately after the burial, her late husband family collected all the properties and sent her away empty handed and she had two kids.

The Supreme Court that voided the Igbo tradition and custom, which forbid a female from inheriting her late father's property is one of the best things that happened in Igbo land. The Igbo custom and tradition marginalised women and make room for discrimination, it places man above a woman thereby make a man to be like god to a woman. Women don't talk when men are talking. Their ideas or suggestions in a matter doesn't count.

There is no significant difference between a male child and a female child in real life apart from penis and vagina. Many have send their spouses way because of their inability to give birth to male children! As if is the woman that determines the sex of a child. Some are currently passing through hell in the hands of the husbands because of their inability to deliver male children.

There is no wickedness on the surface of the earth as sending out a woman who stood by her husband in good and bad moments made money together. With the intervention of Supreme Court, a victim of such scenario can challenge the matter in a court.

Women have proven to be the backbone of most families if not all. They stood in love with their parents and siblings even after being married. They took care of their parents more than the men. If women are doing all these, there is no need to marginalise them. They need to be celebrated 24/7.
