Importance of cola nut to an Africa man mostly in our village"kom"

The most significant tree in the kom land is the colanut tree. " Ibih".To know that a compound in kom is an old one,it is identified through colanut trees in its yard. And it is pride for an individual to harvest its fruits planted by him.This is because,the tree takes a very long time to grow and bear fruits.

When the colanut tree finally bears fruits,it is no longer that of an individual but that of the community and anyone can pick from its fruits.The owner only can only climb and pluck the fruits as a sign that it is his tree.

Colanut " ibih" is a sign of Unity, Friendship,Love ,Reconciliation ,Togetherness to a kom man. This is because the fruit is always divided ,shared and eaten amongs people in a gathering after a long dispute. The fruit is also shared and eaten amongs brothers ,friends when they meet.

Colanut was also greatly used back then by our fathers for commercial purposes.As they plucked bags ,carried and trekked long distant journies that took them months ,to Nigeria to sell. They sold in places like Yola,and the income,they used to buy things like " mibakalis" and beautiful beads to woo their new yong wives.
