Una retrospectiva de mi historia

Saludos entusiastas de steemit, me encuentro por aquí para escribir un rato y compartir con ustedes un poco de mi vida.

Mi persona en un chinchorro| My person in a chinchorro

Cuenta la historia que por allá por 1989, específicamente en abril llegue a este mundo en medio de un contexto muy particular. Mi madre quien es de etnia wayuu y origen colombiano, trabajaba en el aquel tiempo haciendo empanadas en un negocio de comida rápida en Maracaibo (Venezuela), para los que no conocen de la gastronomía venezolana, las empanadas es un alimento muy popular en mi país que consta de una masa de maíz freida en forma semicírcular o semieleptica y rellena con carne, pollo, queso, papa, jamón, guiso de pescado, etc.

The story goes that back in 1989, specifically in April, I arrived to this world in the middle of a very particular context. My mother, who is of Wayuu ethnicity and Colombian origin, worked at that time making empanadas in a fast food business in Maracaibo (Venezuela). For those who do not know about Venezuelan gastronomy, empanadas are a very popular food in my country that consists of a corn dough fried in a semicircular or semi-elliptical shape and filled with meat, chicken, cheese, potato, ham, fish stew, etc.

En esa época muchos colombianos emigraron a Venezuela en busca de una oportunidad para su futuro, y ya que nuestra ciudad se encuentra cerca de la zona fronteriza entre ambos países eran común ver colombianos trabajando en los negocios y áreas de producción de la ciudad y del campo. Lo cierto es que mi mamá trabajaba en uno de esos negocio cuando naci y a partir de allí comienza mi historia.

At that time many Colombians emigrated to Venezuela in search of an opportunity for their future, and since our city is located near the border area between the two countries it was common to see Colombians working in the businesses and production areas of the city and the countryside. The truth is that my mother worked in one of those businesses when I was born and from there my story begins.

El cacique, es el nombre que lleva el lider de una comunidad en la etnia wayuu y también es el apodo que me colocaron cuando nací, verán junto a mi mamá habían otros paisanos wayuu que trabajaban en el mismo negocio de comida, al salir ella en cinta, la jefa decidió cuidarla y hacerse cargo del niño, es decir de mí, los otros empleados al ver que yo pase a ser el consentido de la jefa, decidieron colocarme este apodo "el Cacique", claro en este caso no fue por ser líder de algo, sino más bien por tener el privilegio de estar en buenas manos, no todos tenemos la misma suerte.

The cacique, is the name of the leader of a community in the Wayuu ethnic group and it is also the nickname that I was given when I was born, you see next to my mother there were other Wayuu countrymen who worked in the same food business, when she left on tape, the boss decided to take care of her and take care of the child, The other employees, when they saw that I became the spoiled of the boss, decided to give me this nickname "the Cacique", of course in this case it was not for being the leader of something, but rather for having the privilege of being in good hands, not all of us have the same luck

Mientras la dueña del negócio cuidaba del pequeño cacique, mi mamá seguía trabajando en el negocio, criando a su hijo y agradeciendo a la señora que le ayudaba, los otros empleados le tomaron mucho cariño al pequeño, incluso uno de ellos fue su padrino de bautizo, a su vez miembros de la familia de la jefa también comenzaron a ver al niño como hijo de esta, incluso la hija de la jefa se volvió parte fundamental en la vida del pequeño cacique.

While the owner of the business took care of the little cacique, my mother continued working in the business, raising her son and thanking the lady who helped her, the other employees became very fond of the little boy, even one of them was his godfather at his baptism, in turn members of the boss's family also began to see the child as her son, even the daughter of the boss became a fundamental part in the life of the little cacique.

Así fui creciendo en medio de mucho amor y trabajo, incluso sin la figura paterna, no me faltó el alimento, la educación y el afecto. A la edad de 5 años llegó un punto en el cual el negocio de la señora debió cerrarse por circunstancias que en ese momento no comprendía, lo cierto es que ese ambiente terminó para mí, y para mucho que se vieron beneficiados mientras trabajaban allí. La dueña del local pasó por muy malos momentos que pueden resumirse en falta de salud y apoyo económico, en vista de esto las finanzas del negocio cayeron y poco a poco todo se fue derrumbando.

So I grew up in the midst of much love and work, even without a father figure, I did not lack food, education and affection. At the age of 5 years came a point in which the lady's business had to close for circumstances that at that time I did not understand, the truth is that this environment ended for me, and for many who were benefited while working there. The owner of the store went through very bad times that can be summarized in lack of health and economic support, in view of this the finances of the business fell and little by little everything was collapsing.

Este punto en mi vida fue clave, porque una separados mi mamá, me dejó en manos de su jefa, ya que ella no tenía como terminar de formarme, sin embrago, la jefa también le recordaba a mi mamá que este niño nunca se separaria de ella porque había crecido en medio del amor de las 2, y así fue.

This point in my life was key, because once my mother left me in the hands of her boss, since she had no way to finish my education, however, the boss also reminded my mother that this child would never be separated from her because he had grown up in the love of the two of them, and so it was.

Mi camino a partir de los 5 años, no recuerdo con exactitud, quedo en manos de la señora que fue dueña de ese negocio, un camino que he recorrido con ella en altos y bajos y a pesar de todo nunca me desamparo en mi formación y junto con su hija quien tambien ha mostrado mucho amor lograron criar y ser de mi un chico sano que tiene gran afecto por estas 3 mujeres.

My path from the age of 5, I do not remember exactly, was left in the hands of the lady who owned that business, a path that I have walked with her in ups and downs and despite everything she never left me in my training and together with her daughter who has also shown much love managed to raise and be of me a healthy boy who has great affection for these 3 women.

En la actualidad, cada vez que puedo voy a visitar a mi mamá de sangre. En una zona, que como podrán ver es agrícola, dentro de la economía wayuu está criar animales como chivos, cabras, algunos que otros crian ganado, y siembra para cosechar plátanos, yuca, frijoles, mangos, lechoza, ciruelas, etc. Sin embargo esta zona se ha vuelto muy precaria, por la situación económica de mi país, y también por la reciente pandemia, por lo que sobrevivir aquí se ha vuelto cada vez más duro, sin embargo y afortunadamente buscamos cómo resolver, proveer el alimento

Nowadays, every time I can, I go to visit my blood mother. In an area, which as you can see is agricultural, within the Wayuu economy is raising animals such as goats, goats, some others raise livestock, and planting to harvest bananas, cassava, beans, mangoes, lechoza, plums, etc.. However this area has become very precarious, because of the economic situation of my country, and also because of the recent pandemic, so surviving here has become harder and harder, however, and fortunately we are looking for a way to provide food.

Quizás más adelante hablaré sobre la cultura wayuu, por ahora solo puedo mencionar que dormimos en chinchorros tejidos, mi mamá los hace, así como también muchas otras obras artesanales, por ahora solo quiero compartir un poco de las costumbres wayuu, mi sangre y familia.

Maybe later I will talk about the Wayuu culture, for now I can only mention that we sleep in woven hammocks, my mother makes them, as well as many other handicrafts, for now I just want to share a little of the Wayuu customs, my blood and family.
