New Growth
It is almost a month after spring. Everything is alive. All the trees that lost their leaves over the winter are growing so beautifully. All of the plants that readied themselves for the summer, are starting to flower. And isn’t all this growth an apt metaphor for how we should treat our mental health?
These are some of the new growth in the garden. The most apparent is the fig tree growth. Only 17 days ago they were naked. In 17 days, they have grown an astonishing amount. Nature is amazing.
Flower Photographs: Summer is Around the Corner
Summer is on the horizon. The flowers are getting more abundant. Every day that passes the plants produce more flowers. Every morning with the sunrise I drink my coffee in the garden. Every morning there is more flowers opening up, more bees and insects, more birds and life. We are so blessed with nature and what she gives us.
Mental Health: Flowers, Beer and Everything Nice
Why is it that we see life so much in a reductionist manner? Science has come so far along with its reductionist view of the world, but how did we adopt this view in our day to day lives as well? I mean, take for example the simplistic view of going onto a diet. Yes, you might lose a pound or two, but was that loss conducive to your mental health? More directly, was going onto that diet really good for your overall health? Yes, you lost that little belly fat, but you missed out on the good times, having a beer, enjoying that piece of bread and jam… and so on. It is not healthy overall to overeat and give in to gluttony, but seeing ourselves in a reductionist manner might hinder our mental health. Have that one beer, have that slice of bread. Enjoy the small things in life.
Enjoy the smell of a flower.
Enjoy the taste of freshly baked bread.
Enjoy a cold beer beer after a long day.
Think about your mental health in a more holistic manner. Enjoy life. Stay active, healthy and safe. Have a beer and enjoy life!
