Wednesday.

Grandma is getting better. She's still not too well but she has eaten normally today and her mood has improved quite a bit.

I received a new phone in the mail yesterday evening. The old one started bulging due to its internal battery expanding. It's just barely over two years old but you could start seeing the screen backlight shining through all along the edges and the screen itself already had a bunch of pressure sensitive white spots showing exactly where the battery was pressing against it from behind.

Except for the non-removable battery failing I had a good experience with that Moto G7 Plus and so I ordered a new G60s which I would assume is basically just the newer version of the same thing, a cheap mid-range phone with a pleasantly clean stock android.

I used my afternoon walk to take some comparison pictures with the new versus the old phone.

I leave it to you to guess which one was shot on which phone, I think it's kind of obvious anyways. Suprisingly the new phone delivers almost the same pixel resolution as the old phone did, a tiny bit less even, but the colour reproduction, contrast and detail do look significantly better.

I should also mention: the old phone is using a GCam mod instead of the stock camera app which only produced toaster-grade images compared to google's AI powered GCam software. The new phone is currently just using Motorola's new stock app and I haven't looked into a GCam mod for it and whether it's going to bring as much improvement as it did for the old G7.

The new phone also has a dedicated low-res macro lens and a wide angle lens, but I don't see myself using these too often. Maybe some mushroom macros, but it remains to be seen how usable those lower resolution images will actually be. We'll give it a try in the coming days for sure.
