Lampulo Fish Auction Port

Dawn is starting to break, the orange hue has opened horizontally on the eastern horizon, and the light is not yet able to illuminate the entire expanse of nature. So, this was the perfect time for me to take some long exposure shots while the street lights were still shining brightly in the darkness.

It is a port on the east bank of the mouth of the Aceh River where fishing boats anchor, commonly known as the Fish Auction Place (TPI) 'Lampolo Fish Auction Place' in Banda Aceh. I got there around 4:00 am. The transition from night to day is very sudden during this period. To keep photos from being too bright, I needed a higher level of manual setting control.

Of course, this is not a place where you can enjoy surprising panoramas, but I tried to make the photos look interesting for you, and I hope so!.

So, what might interest you to come? I can only state my perspective.

In my opinion, the behavior of traditional Acehnese fishermen is very interesting and entertaining to watch. Some actions, words and behavior are sometimes understood only by his comrades, a kind of sailor's code. This is of interest, especially to those studying cultural anthropology. This location is an excellent starting point for conducting observations and interviews with fishermen for studies of traditional seafaring communities.

The Acehnese traditional fishing community under the supervision of the Panglima La'ôt traditional institution highly upholds Hukom Adat Laot (Traditional Law of the Sea) which is a past law that is in accordance with local wisdom. And it is still relevant to apply today.

Laot Adat Law is a customary law enforced by the Aceh fishing community to maintain order in fishing and in the lives of fishing communities on the coast. Regulates procedures for fishing at sea and how to resolve them if there are customary disputes between fishermen at sea. -- T.Muttaqin Mansur, Structure of La'ot Customary Law in the National Legal System.

There, I chose a location on the embankment in the middle of the harbor so I could observe the surroundings 360 degrees.

The ship entrance is to the north, west of the ship route to the pier, and to the southeast is the main pier building where ships dock and carry out loading and unloading activities.

Large, medium and small fishing boats anchor there. They catch fish using shrimp trawls that have operational permits. The location of this port is on the border of the Strait of Malacca and the Indian Ocean.

The sun was at the top of Mount Seulawah, the volcano which is a natural landmark of the Aceh valley. It has served as a natural lighthouse for maritime navigation from ancient times to the present.

A bright atmosphere has illuminated the entire land of Aceh; Fishing boats took turns unloading their catch, and the hustle and bustle of transaction activity between fish traders and fishermen began to be heard. Lampulo Fish Harbor, Banda Aceh, is the main fresh fish auction place in Aceh.

Not to mention the fishermen with small boats catching fish with nets in the puddles of the harbor. They carry out activities appropriate to their level of ability.

It doesn't feel like time has passed so quickly. The reflection of the water on the surface of the dock floor made me stop. Three shots for that.

I hope you can enjoy the atmosphere there through these photos as much as you enjoyed it in person.
