Egrets in the City Mangrove Forest

in WhereIN19 days ago

Flocks of egrets begin to return to their homes before sunset. They occupy the branches of mangrove trees. I photographed egrets in the Pusong Reservoir Mangrove Forest, Lhokseumawe City, Aceh. Here, egrets are the most common wild bird species found in coastal settlements. They can live safely in coastal residential areas, and so far no disturbances have befallen them.

These images are the result of the testing process of my new Sony A7iii camera combined with my Canon EF100-400mm lens bridged by a Metabones adapter. In my opinion, this combination is not optimal for photographing wild birds, because the autofocus tracking doesn't work as it should. Thanks to this experience, I dare say, it was not the right choice, even though I was already strong in using existing equipment. I hope to have a telephoto lens for Sony someday.

I chose the Picture Profile PP3 setting (natural color tone setting using gamma [ITU709]) to anticipate underexposure on a cloudy afternoon, I have to maintain the maximum shutter speed for the egret which is always moving. The process is in Photoshop, and here are the results taken this afternoon, Friday 14 June 2024.

This location is probably the best location to learn bird photography in Lhokseumawe; access is easy, it is located in the city center, and you can easily shoot egrets while standing on the side of a public road.
