The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently approved a significant sum of N19.24 billion for various initiatives related to the NPower program.

These initiatives include the training of 50,000 non-graduate NPower beneficiaries and the procurement of a taxiway lighting system for airports in Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Abuja.

Additionally, the approved funds will cover consultancy services for the Dadin Kowa 40MW power project in Gombe State and the furnishing of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency’s 10-storey headquarters in Lagos.

Training for Non-Graduate NPower Beneficiaries

The Federal Government has recognized the importance of skill development and training for non-graduate NPower beneficiaries. In March 2023, four agencies were engaged to provide training for 50,000 non-graduate NPower beneficiaries over a period of nine months.

These agencies include the National Institute of Transport Technology, Industrial Training Fund, National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, and the Hydraulic Equipment Development Institute.

Approval of Funds

During an extraordinary meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House in Abuja, the Ministers of Humanitarian Affairs, Social Development and Disaster Management, Sadiya Farouk, along with her counterparts in the Ministries of Aviation, Education, and Water Resources, announced the approval of the N19.24 billion fund.

According to Minister Farouk, the training of non-graduate NPower beneficiaries will require a total sum of N14.21 billion, including a 7.5% value-added tax (VAT).

The Federal Government has expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the agencies responsible for the training and has decided to engage them again for the current batch of beneficiaries.

Additional Initiatives

The approved funds will not only cover the training of non-graduate NPower beneficiaries but will also be allocated for other essential projects.

The procurement of a taxiway lighting system in the airports of Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Abuja aims to enhance safety and efficiency in air travel.

Furthermore, the Dadin Kowa 40MW power project in Gombe State will receive consultancy services funded by the approved budget. This project will contribute to the expansion and improvement of the power infrastructure in the state, ultimately benefiting the residents.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency’s headquarters in Lagos, a 10-storey building located in Victoria Island, will also be furnished using the allocated funds.

This initiative will provide a conducive and modern work environment for the agency’s staff, promoting efficiency and effectiveness in their operations.

Conclusion

The approval of N19.24 billion by the Federal Government for NPower training and various infrastructure projects demonstrates its commitment to empower non-graduate beneficiaries and improve key sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The training provided by reputable agencies will equip individuals with the necessary skills for employment and entrepreneurship. Additionally, investments in airport infrastructure, power projects, and agency headquarters will contribute to the overall development and progress of the country....
