Sunday of Remembrance// An Unexpected Happened.
Steem greetings @everyone and welcome to my blog as I share my story about “Sunday of remembrance”. It was Sunday 20th of October which I will never forget in a hurry.
On that day, I had just returned from the burial of my late brother from another region. I was exhausted and decided to stay back at home without attending church service.
My elder sister who came for the burial of our late brother from South Africa and other family relatives from the USA had their flights on that same Sunday morning. I had tried to get hold of them how the check-in at the airport was going unfortunately, I could not connect with any of them.
I decided to call my nephew in South Africa to find out if he had spoken with his mom while at the airport. I was on a video call with him while sitting on my balcony with my kids. That was at the 2nd floor of the building.
While on the call, @saxopedia came visiting and also joined on the discussions I had with my nephew. My husband had left to the field for his veteran soccer game every Sundays. An unexpected happened and we could hear gun sounds all over the town. Remember we are living in a conflict zone and most often random shootings from those actively participating in the conflict.
We rush indoors and my kids are already aware of the security measures. All of us laid down on the floor while the shootings were ongoing. It was terrifying and my nephew was so scared for our lives. I had to cut off the call and look after the kids. My 4-year-old son was screaming and I had to calm him down. I was so surprised about his reaction when the shootings subsided.
My daughter stood up from the floor and my son shouted at her asking her if it was safe for us to get up. Then they went to the window to spy if there was movement outside. I had to ask them to get back on the seat.
It was a Sunday of remembrance for my nephew because he has never witnessed shootings as such. He was able to witness some of the terrifying moments of shootings we experienced for over 8 years living in a conflict zone.
